Well I had to take back an old broken rod (AllStar) and decided that I would try one of the new H20 rods. The baits seem good and the reels I have heard are good for the price. Well the rod felt good and seemed to have good sensitivity too. I was C-rigg'n and it was the C-rig rod too rated for up to a 1oz weight. Well I feel my first bite and set the hook and BANG!!!!!! the rod breaks into 3 parts. I know that I did not set the hook that hard at all and that should not have happened. My question is has this ever happened to anyone else with these rods. I wasn't mad or anything because it is a cheep rod and all that but on the first hook set ever it should not have exploded like that. O well I will just get a few more Demon Rods and not have to worry about it any more.

Thanks for the follow up post. I thought about getting the H20 pitchin' stick if you had any positive feedback. I think maybe now I'll ease toward the end of the aisle and get a Castaway instead. I've seen some good reviews and they're not much higher in price. Sorry you had to be the guinea pig. Good luck.

i heard that the h2o reels were good for the price to but i also heard that the other h2o stuff like the poles and the line is not good at all. lol so i guess i know for sure now I myself am not a fan at all of the line. Bought a couple reels they have a promo to fill your reel. Thought what the heck let em spool up both reels.Carried one out. I didn't even make it through the morning before it went back to the rod box. Now they both are re-spooled. Not even close to a quality line.

I bought one of the H20 Coastal Special 7'6" Medium Action for Speckled Trout and the rod snapped in three places on the second cast. That is right...ON THE CAST!! I can't imagine how strong they are for a hookset.

They are trying out the rods. They are looking for feedback on them. This is the first generation and are looking to improve them. Look for a manager and tell what you think. Dont be rude and tell them they are [censored], but tell them what you were doing when it snapped, and discuss how the rod felt. Believe Academy is trying really hard to improve their house brand. Their reels are already outselling BPS reels now. The mettle is selling alot, and is pretty good reel for the price. The new rods have the same handle as the falcon Cara. They are really nice, but yeah being made of Graphite Compsite is kind of cheap. They are trying to compete with BPS. But its hard to make high end rods when they dont sell. I know all of this cause i work at the academy in corpus. We were really exicited when they came out, till we felt them. But dont be shy to discuss the rods with someone. We want your imput.

Thanks for letting us know about that Josh. After buying the mettle reel I have been stuck to the Express brand. Love it. I know alot of people say the rods break easy but ive haven't had any problems.
