I heading down to the San Luis Pass area 8-1 thru 8-7 for some R&R. I'm going to be doing a lot of fishing while I'm there and sure would like to tear up the specs and reds. I haven't been down there in quite some time so I really don't have any idea where to fish. My proposal... I plan on wade fishing and was wondering if anyone would be interested in putting me on fish. You put me on fish and I pay 100.00. Of coarse when I say fish, I mean specs or reds and a decent amount during a morning or evening. Lets say you get me on 5 quick decent fish. I'll hand you 100.00 and you can either stay or boogie. You just point the way. If it turns out to be really awesome I'll sweeten the deal. I would hire a guide , but never had much luck with them in the past not to mention I hate booking so early with the weather as unpredictable as it can be. Looking for someone who is serious, no flakes! I used to fish down there in 80's and early 90's. Since then I've been strictly bass fishing since moving to Dallas. I'm experienced and looking for the same. So, if you are interested in making a little extra cash while fishing...shoot me a PM. Thanks

You might want to check with a fishing guide and there are some reputable ones in that area to stay legal, because what you are offering is illegal and could very well end the individual that would receive the money a hefty citation as well as yourself.

Bream, Just curious but I've never heard anything like this. So far as I know there is no state or federal licensing regulations for guides aside from the CG certifications that enable a guide to call himself Captain. If there is a law against one private individual paying another private individual for fishing knowledge, I'd like to hear about it.
I personally, know several very good and experienced guides that are not CG licensed captains that operate very legal, very reputable and successful operations. I was just curious if you know something that I don't?

IS that a new rule? Even if the "guide" doesnt operate a vessel he still has to have the Six pack license?

I am sure a "real" guide might take you up on the "30 minutes" offer, as that is $200 an hour. I've been tempted to post something like this in the past ;-)

I have been having to politely turn down offers of payment for fishing trips I have taken people on for most of the summer... I can only accept tips or gas/lunch I was unaware of the law as well, until a friend pointed out the fines that Green Water so helpfully listed. Eye-opener for sure.

He could just make a bet with someone. $100 saying that someone couldn't put him on those 5 decent fish he wants. After all, he wouldn't be paying them "as a guide per say" rather he lost the bet
Happy Fishing To All And To All A Good Night!!

We could even do several trips at a double or nothing deal:) I bet there isn't anyone that can put me on the fish.

I am taking the coast guard six pack class this dec. I live in MT and will be adding an outboard to my operation. We currently use only driftboats. The USCG informed me that I need the OUPV (six pack) lic. if I acccept compensation. We are freshwater troutfishing on a river. After questioning them they also informed me that bass fishing guides, duck hunting guides and anybody that uses a 'motorized' vessel and accepts compensation is required to have at least a six pack license. But before you can apply for a USCG license you must obtain a TWIC card from Homeland Security. Ol Uncle Sam can sure make things complicated.
Still wouldn't want to live anywhere else <'))))<
