A hot water pipe burst under the house. I shut off the water and apprised the situation.
A tiny quarter inch break at a connection in the pipe but spewing a lot of hot water!
Went to Lowes and got plastic thingy with screw caps and bushings on each end.
Cut pipe above leak and moved it over enough to slide the repair pipe on.
Tightened down the repair piece while flat on my back in hot mud!
Hollered for wifey to turn on the water valve.
No leaks.
Question? How long can I expect this repair to last? Anybody know the lifetime of the repair device described?
Thanks.

I would be more concerned with the steel pipe that had originally cracked. The repair piece will probably last unless, you have a hard freeze and it will burst very easily.

It's called repair coupling.
I would make it a temporary repair
It can last for many years.
You can go to lowes or home depot and buy sharkbyte repair couplings and make a better repair.
I assume your house is pier and beam, I would let it dry out for a few day before you make the permanent repair. That way you won't be working in a mudhole. If it breaks again, just turn the valve off at the water heater and it will stop the flow of hot water.

The pipe is half inch copper.....not really "busted" as such, just a separation in the connecting joint before it goes into the ground.

It can last for many years. Hey Red! I like this part of your answer....."It can last for many years."
I do NOT want to crawl back under that spidery, muddy place unless it is absolutely necessary!
Now, I think it is Old Mil time!
Thanks!

It wont last forever but neither did the original solder joint. You need to get a permanant fix . Im a plumber but do not do side jobs.

www.ganskeplumbing.com I am a plumber. Plastic "gee couplings " are notorious for blowing apart if both ends are not blocked or something too keep pressure from blowing apart. soldering is best, but "Shark bite" fittings @ home depot etc... these fittings push together and your done . tees 90's adapters etc.. are available.

Thanks Be Back! I read up on those Shark Bite connectors! Too bad I did not see those when I went to Lowes.
If the one I put on ever fails I will get the Shark Bite for sure!
They have a pro sounding name also.....Shark Bite!!
