Howdy!

I just got my kayak this weekend (Tarpon 100), and took it out in Austin on Bushy Creek and Town Lake.

Now that I'm back home in Dallas, can you suggest a good, calm area where there is also some good fishing? I perused the site quickly, and didn't see a similar topic, so I hope I'm not duplicating effort here.

Unless you are wearing a grass skirt and sleeping in a ditch and eating only road kill, you too are part of 'the problem'.

Depends on where you are. Collin Park on Lake Lavon is a pretty good place for newbies. It's a "No Wake" zone and I usually catch a few small fish and a lot of perch on the fly rod.

I've been on Brushy Creek and Town Lake a few time and love it. Perch on the fly rod is hard to beat in the hot summer time. smile

Glad to hear Lavon has a good spot. I went there to do some shore fishing at East Fork Park there, and caught a couple crappie.

I'll try to give Collin Park a shot this weekend.

Thanks!

I fish Lake Fork as often as possible. Another good spot on Lavon is launching at the park close to 380. Not sure of the park name, but it is usually empty.

Twin Groves, on the west end of the 380 bridge is usually open, but Caddo Park on the east end is sometimes closed. The last time I checked the TPW site a couple of months ago, Caddo was to be closed until further notice....? Anyone know if it's back open?

Man I bet you could have walked from one side of Lady Bird to the other on nothing but canoes and yaks last weekend. I went down to the Barton springs pool with my wife and it was packed.

It's more than the catfish would do.

well, if you around the Dallas area, Bachmen Lake right next to Love Field airport has some termendous sized bass along the rip rap wall.

There is a 5mph hourse power limit, the only thing is other kayakers in the late afternoon can be a little frustrating, but much less than town lake.

Also, you can try Lake Arlington. Nice size LMB in there. Arkansas lane runs into a ramp. There's another ramp on the same side of the lake but I don't remember the street. You can check it out on mapslive.com.
