I recently broke down and bought a bait caster. Now I feel guilty and dirty. This must be what it feels like to cheat on your wife with a unattractive prostitute.

I even bought some lures, ::sobs::

Any of you guys mess with conventional tackle from time to time?

Yes, I will admit it. Some times just call for it.

But if I have my way, I am throwing a fly 100% of the time.

Even after your confession, I would expect the unexpected.

Don't think of it as a sin. Think of it as being more versatile.

Fly fishing is fun and all but it's not the end all be all.

I have seen some big, big ol carp right where you are set up there, nice spot.

It's more than the catfish would do.

I'm with DH. There are times for fly fishing, worm fishing, and rippin a trap. It just depends on what you are in the mood for, unlike the whole wife/prostitute thing. You folks can hate me, but there are days/nights when I would rather pitch a worm than anything.

I have a bunch of Baitcasters & spinning rods (even got some Zebco 33's for guests), I enjoy fly fishing the most, but I am not going to limit myself to just one method of fishing...there are times when a fly aint gonna work (and visa versa)...the big picture is success at catching fish me, the method is secondary for the most part.

Yeah, the catching fish part has been hard enough.

Man when the wind is howling sometimes you have little choice. And, when I am scouting out new areas to fish I'll usually take conventional along with my flyrod so I can eliminate more water with conventional and fish the fishy water with a fly, if possible.

I'm with Cole though - I'd rather catch 'em on a fly, but as we've all said too; there's a time and a place. It's nice to have choices.

thumb same here, but today was an excellent example, my son & I were on our way (in boat) to our sunfish spot when we saw some white bass/hybrids busting shad on top, I had a bait caster with a chrome/shad plug on it and was able to cast to the edge of the school, I had one hooked briefly before it pulled of and the school sounded but I never would have had the chance with just a fly rod aboard..and I am going back tomorrow afternoon to scout around for the true basses and will bring a variety of tackle, if I get a good shot with a fly rod I will take it, but with them chasing so far & fast I will probably have better luck with spoon, jig or crankbait just because I can cast it 50 yards instead of 50 feet.

Good to know that fellas.

I kept telling myself; "Bait casting reels do take at least some skill to cast"

I have done very little "regular fishing" since I picked up a fly rod years ago. I've just been out of the swing of things. To be honest I even enjoyed casting with it a little.

But still, nothing compares to throwing a perfect loop with the fly rod.

I cannot believe my ears. I think I may cry. J/K sometimes you gotta throw conventional. But if I had my way...

I dont own one single piece of conventional equip. Baitcasting and Spinner are for people who cant cast...

But wait BassRTrash.... what if its a windy day?

Well go up a couple line wt's and tighten those loops....

But BasRTrash... They are only hitting on spoons....

We have spoon flies too... they are called spoons...

Repent now!!! Repent I say...
