There's lots of controversy over wire diameter and vibration. Light .030 or .032 diameters don't necessarily translate into "more" vibration, nor do heavy wires translate into "less" vibration. We've been making both styles for years and have found there's a world of difference between the way they perform and vibrate. One is not necessarily better than the other, rather each have their own unique advantages. The bait dimensions, design, wire composition and blade weight, size and shape have as much an impact on vibration as anything else.

Vibration is caused by blade rotation, period. How that rotation is transferred and "expressed" is dependent on the wire diameter and composition, and overall bait design. Light wire absorbs the blade rotation and transmits it mostly to the bait itself and causes the whole bait to shimmy. The blades make a more narrow rotation arc around the wire because the force of the blades collapses the light wire. Looks like its really vibrating, and all that shimmying action must be visually enticing, however theres less felt through the rod than the same setup on .040 wire. Regardless, its, deadly on a well balanced and tuned bait.

On a .040 wire bait, the same blade rotation is absorbed less by the wire and the upper arm remains relatively stationary with the blades actually rotating in a larger arc around the wire. The bait does not shimmy much, however the wider rotation of the blades causes maximum water displacement that translates into vibration which can be felt through the rod not only as thumping, but through a firm resistance as well. This is also deadly on a well balanced and tuned bait.

In terms of swivels, because the bait inherits 100% of its vibration from the blades we're with Eric and use only super smooth SAMPO ball bearing swivels to enable maximum rotation.

Hope this helps.

Nice Andi! I was trying to decide if I wanted to try to explain all that but you did it for me. Oh and David, you can get them at the back door of Jack in the Box if you know the handshake.

Ok, so the guy wanted people to see his website for his spinnerbaits. He should have put it up in the plugs, but I was just wanting to comment on how we are lucky to have people like Andi and Eric on this forum who really know there stuff and can look at these baits in a different way than I can. Thanks for the critique guys! thumb

spinner baits don't work. I did really like the write ups. I still have never caught a fish on one. I, have witnessed my son catching a couple of big uns on them. I just figured that they were dumbbasses smile
