New to bait casting reels and thinking about getting one. I don't want to put out the money for 100 reel. So do anyone have any good options on a good low end model casting reel?

I prefer Shimano reels, but the Citica retails for $119. I strongly recommend that you scrape together the few extra bucks to get this reel. The lower end Shimanos suck, so if you really insist on your $80 limit, I would check out the Daiwa Exceler if I were you. Pretty nice reel.

Daiwa Exceler, great reel. Sells for 79.95 and can be had for lower on occasion.

the ONLY reel I'd give a 100% recommendation at less than $80 is an Ambassadeur C3 (and not the BCX).

I'd think a 4600C3 would make a great first reel that will stand up as well as anything. Academy has them for $68.99 iirc.

If you fish a lot and only have one reel you'll go thru $80 reels like a hot knife thru butter, I know I did when I first started fishing.

I have two new reels for sale. Identical to the C3. Called Black Max 5500. W/ your choice of 5'6' pistol grip, or 6' BPS Graphite Series rods. Only asking $60 for the combo. See my post in the classifieds. "Houston-Abu Baitcasters..."

Have bought and used several Revo S for under $70 off the internet. Excellant reels to boot!
