Best Wishes...

A bit of info for you and the wife.. My wife was on Synthroid.. (thyroid replacement) for years... did some nasty things not real bad but bad enough to strain things.

Switch to Amor synthroid or whatever it is.. Its a natural product from a pig and she is much better...

except she snorts now... (kidding) PM me if you want details on the meds...
And best wishes to the Fam.

Yes, we've already been told about natural vs. synthetic hormone replacement meds. And the Army hospital here is the #1 military hospital for endocrinology, nuclear med, and internal med AND one of the top 100 hospitals in the US according to US News and World Report (civilian or military)for the past 3 years in a row. So we're pretty comfortable with her quality of care.

As for the going off to war thing...gang, that's what soldiers do! It's easy to forget we've been at war for the past 8 years now because they're so damned good at keeping us so safe that we don't even really notice. But when your spouse is in the military, the reality that they're going to get on a plane and go away for a year or longer every now and then to go hunt bad guys is part of the deal. It doesn't make it any easier, but it isn't a surprise...like a doc saying, "You have tumors in your neck that might be cancer."

The reality is this: since 9/11, the operational tempo for all active duty army and marine corps personnel has been (on average) 1 year deployed and 1 year at home. BUT...that 1 year at home includes 3 months of pre-deployment work-up for the next 1 year combat deployment. It also includes ALL temporary duty assignments and travel for schools, training, and such necessary for career advancement and professional development. So the typical soldier or marine is gone from home about 75% of the time. And that's been going on for 8 years solid. That's why the divorce rates, domestic violence, juvenile delinquency, high school dropout rates for military kids, military suicides, military-involved murders, and all that [censored] are skyrocketing and veteran soldiers are getting out as fast as they possibly can unless they are single with no kids.

That, the coffins, the wheelchairs, the scars, and the PTSD...these are the REAL "sacrifices" the military makes so that we don't have to even live like there IS a war going on.

I could not have said it better thumb

I'm glad to hear your wife is doing well, mine has been on the thoraxin (sp)or something like that since before we were married.

sorry to hear she is coming over here, but depending on what she does, and where she is at will make a difference. don't get me wrong, this place sucks, but there are levels of suck grin

If you need any info, not sure if this is her first, shoot me a pm, I'll answer any questions that I can. This is my second go round

Dude, she's an MP w/the 1 BCT 1AD. And she's the personal gunner and back-up driver for a line officer in the STB. That's pretty extreme on the suck-o-meter these days for a female! Look at their AO.

I don't know why MPs are not considered as being combat troops. But then, I am not in the military so I may be missing something. At any rate, I wish her a well and boring time over there.

It's a joke, robin. In the past 18 months or so in Iraq, more MP's have been killed than any other military occupation specialty. They kick in doors chasing tangos, they man roadblocks and checkpoints, they provide convoy escort security, etc. So they and the truck drivers are doing much of the actual dangerous work nowadays...the stuff where they're actually being targeted by the tangos. Toss the combat engineers and medics in there, and you've got the bulk of those with their posteriors hanging in the wind on a daily basis...by MOS. But it's really not that "simple."

I understand about being in the military, and when duty calls and all that good stuff. It is hard on the family. That duty station is dangerous, and I wanted to say a quick prayer of protection for your wife.

She got nuked today. So the Army sent her home because she was too dangerous to hang around with them. Gee...thanks! LOL She can't get within 6' of another human being for the next 8 days, can't touch animals. Can't eat off of anything but paper plates. And is carrying a DoD letter that notifies everyone that if she sets off a radiometer it's the Army's fault...so please don't kill her or arrest her.

So - in the past 14 months she's been shot, beaten, stabbed, tased, pepper sprayed, gased twice, given anthrax, and nuked. And they haven't even sent her to war yet! LMAO

So much for all that, "Back when I was in the military we had it really tough..." stuff. We did have it tough. And we were good at what we did. But these kids today are AMAZING!

Sorry to hear that, Mike.

The docs say my wife will be fine in time. Essentially, she's got to do this simple round of chemo that attacks only the thyroid. Then she'll go on hormone replacement.

As for the rest of that stuff I mentioned, that's just routine training for today's military police.

Here's food for thought: we can't do ANYTHING even CLOSE to that to a prisoner, detainee, or irregular enemy combatant. They call it "torture." But we do all of it and more to our own troops and call it "training."

Wow, I did not realize they got such a high dose of the stuff. That is rough alright. I hope she feels better very soon. Thanks for the update.

Hope things work out, sounds like she is going thru worse than she will here! They may consider this a vacation for her.

The MPs write tickets here whip

Yeah, she's had a rough year.

The MP mission changes drastically depending on conditions on the battlefield/mission of the brigade to which they belong. They could be running a detention center, running convoy escort duty, running checkpoints, handling physical security for an HQ (writing tickets), training indigenous forces in law enforcement operations, conducting criminal investigations, providing vip/event security, serving as reaction forces in a riot/crowd control capacity, or serving as reserve infantry forces (their secondary mission).

My wife is the gunner in a M1119 Guardian Armored Security Vehicle with the Special Troops Battalion of the heaviest armored brigade in the US Army. You don't write tickets from one of those. LOL

They got their orders yesterday and are going to get their wills, powers of attorney, and all that jazz from legal aid today.

My best to your wife. Mine is also on synthroid, and has been for a couple of years. My son's girlfriend had a cancerous thryroid, surgery about Christmas, and is just now returning to normal levels of activity and energy. They failed to tell her the recovery would be so challenging, so she tried to continue her college education through the spring. It was a tough semester.
