I would bet that Lake Fork owns the title for the most revenue raised via out of state license sales. Those alone would probably pay for the extra cost for LMB stockings...plus some.

Looks like a put and take system? They put(in lake fork) and the anglers take. Granted Lake Fork is suitable to raise big fish, but so are many other lakes around the state if they would just put those same #'s of fingerlings in them as well.

Cameron,
I am not going to get in a pi@@ing contest with you over Lake Fork....
All you did was prove our point that Lake Fork is treated special by TPWD and the rest is spreadout over the whole state on a hit and miss plan, mostly miss.....
There are other lakes in Texas that would produce just as good as Fork if they received the same level of attention; however, that will probably never happen, that is our point...
Spread the wealth, instead of special treatment for Fork....
There is nothing special about the water in Fork other than the treatment it receives from TPWD.....

This topic has been beat around. If I remember right according to TPWD the goal of stocking is to increase the genetics of bass not to increase the population. There are exceptions where fish kills or other factors have led them to stock to increase populations. Most stocking is based on the % of true florida bass genes and the attempt to increase that %. Habitat and water levels have much more to do with the fish population on large resevoirs than stocking by TPWD. Do a search and you will find alot of informatioin both true and false on this topic. Most often I find that TPWD has good logical reasons for their management whether you like them or not. It's hard to find a more successful state agency when it comes to largemouth bass. Good stuff there. If you really want to educate yourself on the logic behind stocking practices then do a little research. It is not a Fisheries Biologists job to evenly distribute stockings around the state.

Aside from Fork, which I think John175 gave the 'real' reason for. And it's a good one!
It's from shocking and surveys. They aren't gonna stock a lake that doesn't need it. Just because you aren't catching fish or giant fish for that matter doesn't mean it needs to be stocked.
You can OVERSTOCK a lake........

Ray Bob is supposed to be a really good lake for LMB populations, the last time it was stocked was 2005 with 14,800 and change. Prior to that it was 2001 with a bit over 500,000 fingerlings. The lake is good, but it could be better with a little help from the TPWD. Those numbers are from the state, so I am assuming they are correct. Also, I was wondering if TPWD ever stock the lakes with small mouths or spotted bass?

How was I going to get into a contest with you about Fork? Don't know why you gotta call me out, that is so Forked up. I'm just a Forkin candybar salesman. Fork this post! I say 6 Forkin words and I'm the Forkin devil. San Antonio? I'm guessing Choke Canyon is your stomping grounds and you are not pleased about how things are shaking out down there. Why not address TPW directly and see if you can get an answer. Seems logical... Larry D. Fishermen and Fisherwomen spend literally 10's of millions yearly on our sport. We not only have to buy a overpriced license, and then have to turn around and pay a freaking launch fee, to luanch our boat and then have to beach the darn thing because our WELL spent dollars won't buy us a dock to tie up too. I would like to see an itemized report of where our money is going. State wide, lake facilities are terrible. very well spoken....
