I got the green Marine Sta-Bil at West Marine for $29.95 a quart. Felt kind of dumb when I saw it later at Academy for like 15 bucks less. Oh well, I've had worse problems...laugh

I've never killed anyone, but I've read several obituaries with great enjoyment.

Am I ok then using it on my normal 2-stroke fuel system where I CLOSE the vent on the tank when in storage, or should I be leaving the vent open if I use marine stabil? Didn't know about this "vented" requirement or what it means really...

yes it is OK ,
Just that baots, lawn equipment have a vented fuel system, this is what lets the humid air in and this is where you get the moisture from.

just run your boats engines evry week and you will not have problems with the gas

I have started doing this also. If I'm not going to get it out for a few days I put the muffs on and run it a little. Just preventative maintence "I hope".

I'm sticking with Seafoam. thumb I'm very impressed with how the carbs stay clean even after sitting up for a while. flag

OK, thanks for the clarification on the "vented" thing. If it's designed for vented where humidity is always getting inside (like my old boat with built-in gas tank) then it ought to be even better for tanks that have a closable vent.

I bought a big bottle (treats 320 gals) today at O'Reilley's in Terrell for $23.99.

And, btw, I noticed a quart bottle of the old red stabil treats only 80 gallons, and a quart of the marine stabil treats 320 gallons. So apparently, it's much more potent stuff and may be cheaper per gallon in the long run.

You are correct on that. Seafoam should be used before or after you tune up the engine.

I pull the plugs and squirt sea-foam and let it sit, then start it up and spray the foam through the carbs while running (best to do on the trailer at the boat ramp) at the end of the can shut off the engine and let it sit for a hour or so, start it up and cruise around the lake, change plugs and away you go

If there is a lot of junk in your gas tank it is possible that the Seafoam could free it up and cause it to stick in the carb. The Seafoam itself did not clog up the carb.

Seafoam has never caused any issue for me. When I first started using it there was a lot of smoke and the motor ran rough until all of the gunk was cleaned out. Not anymore. flehan

Very interesting link below.... I thought I might start adding more to my gas other than Ring Free and I stumbled upon the following link:

http://www.fuel-testers.com/is_gas_additive_safe_with_e10_list.html

I think I will take a wait and see position.....

Agreed but, in my case and many others, you are mixing oil with the gas. With oil injection there is no way to run the carb dry after use with out doing special preparation. Hence, if it sits for a while in the Winter the carb gets gummed up. I dont' have near the problem like before if I use Seafoam in the tank regularly. I don't have to rebuild the carbs and clean them after sitting for a while. My $0.02. flag
