I have been killing them all summer in short periods of time in the some of the same spots. About a 100yds past the crappie wall on the same side, I use what I call a shrimp taco. take half a worm run it up your circle hook then pack and one HEB shrimp right behind the worm and fish the bottom. I use a 20LB carbon leader on 12lb test it makes a difference for me and the guys-if you go too heavy action slows. Goodluck.

No I have a bay boat plenty of room for you if you ever want to go. I usually go in the afternoon because of work, however my buddy has been hitting my spots in the morning and catching atleast 2-5 nice keepers, between 7-11. We catch cats, but they are real skinny right now so I toss them back, might be the hot water who knows, I catch good cats during cooler months. I also down rig but went back to bait fishing when gas went through the roof trying to save alittle money. Hope this helps, I don't have a problem giving up spots like some people but won't tell everyone on this forum in case I want fish and have a place to fish. Usually over the years just like down rigging if you find them they usually are their. Red fish make me think of my quail hunting days they do know how to group up.
Good luck I will be out their sometime in the next couple of days

When you say "worm", what are you referring to? Plastic, live, etc.?
Thanks.....

i'd bet he is talking about "nightcrawlers" ...not 100% but alot of people use them out there...hey Alan, i asked about your boat because i ran into a guy at the ramp monday talking about that same spot ...I prolly seen you out there, i have a 13'boston whaler, i downrigg pretty much everytime. I might take ya up on your offer, i take my boat always during the week in the afternoon after work. I will throw down for gas or whatever bait anything we need. I usually have to fish by myself on my boat cuz all my friends still working, sucks!! Im going to PM you with my # maybe you can call me next time

jsb and bbrown
jsb is right bbrown I use live night crawlers, like I said take a half of one pull in half one on the hook other back in the box or other rod. Then shove a shrimp on behind it, I call it the shrimp taco have been for at least 15 years, if someone else happends to say they named it thats fine my friends all know what it is by me telling them that. Call it what you like. The reason I like it is the following if I catch shad and perch it takes time and if I go with my bait I am fishing right away saves me time. I will tell you this I have used this and fished it for more than 20yrs and the main reason I like it is it will catch cats, reds, stripers they love it. If you go to a punch bait or big Marvs great bait but you limit yourself to cats and I do this sometimes, However I like fishing this time of year for reds and usually do well. If you want goods cats at night I go to the other power plant lake and use the same bait at night its cooler and cats jump on it real well.
jsb - was not me monday I have a 20ft redfin and if we meet up just bring your rods and if they are their then hold on like cliff says they run like a train. lots of fun

Thanks, Al, for the info. Man, what works, works! That's the main reason for me checking. I'm always open to try new things and I can promise you I will try this.
