About 10 years ago, my family and I would camp out there every year and just slay the catfish using live perch. We stayed out the for 5 days a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't catch anything. Fished all over the lake with perch, stink bait, worms and shrimp. Had 4 poles out at night, all night and they would still have bait in the morning.

Just wondering if anyone else was having problems out there, or if something happened to the lake that killed the fish that I am unaware of.

stopped fishing there in 2002 when the fishing started to go way downhill for every species.

thought about going back for memories and see if it got better, but i'll wait another year i guess.

I know some catfishermen that absolutely hammered that lake.
They didnt keep over their limit but went all the time until fishing fell off.
lake was loaded with 6lb. channel cat.
a small lake cant handle being pounded that hard.

You hit the nail on the head ! Smaller lakes that get hammered all the time< and people that take limits everytime out will fish out a smaller lake in a short period of time .. I have seen it happen a lot in the last 10 years to some of the smaller lakes.. Benbrook, Alvarado,cleburne,.. I was reading an article about fayette county lake that said the lakes channel cat population is declining rapidly.. People may be within their rights to keep their limits at these lakes, but using a little common sense can solve the problem.. A little restraint from time to time would preserve the fishing for years to come..

been there gaspergoo, 25 fish limit!! 2 guys fishing everyday for a week or two. do the math! they caught 90% of the big cats in that little lake.
alvarado was a great lake for big channelcat. hammered
Lake sucks now.
25 isnt that bad on a large lake, 25 is way too many on most small lakes.
cleburne state park should be 10.

There should be plenty of catfish in the lake. Ever since 1986 they have stocked over 2000 catfish every year. I think you just have to find the right area of the lake to be fishing is all. Should be loaded with them.

I had my boat and the lake is so small that I pretty much covered it in the 5 days I was there. No fish.
