Im going to Lake Conroe tomorrow morning, and I will be putting in at Seven Coves. Ive never done all that well, and was hoping for some advice. I usually try to get out early and catch shad, which I catch some, but never alot. Seems normal. The only place that I have ever had repeated success is the 1097 bridge, and by success, I mean I atleast catch one fish. Id really like to target some larger blues. Some help, please? Thanks in advance for anything you can offer.

Go past the bridge, hang a left into the big cove where the timber is. Fish among the logs and trees.

Isn't there a TPWD public boat ramp in that cove?

Im not a catfisher but in my last bass tourney I caught a 41 pound and a 19.6 poud cat on 10lbs test line and texas rigged soft plastic. Pics on my phone but don't have the cord to upload. I caught them in Bentwater in 3 feet of water last month.

I have been bank fishing for catfish the past couple of weeks.
I am still in the learning phase with catfish. But I can promise you this. The catfish are not in shallow water any more.

As texag said, go north among the timber. Now, in the past people have caught lots of cats under the bridge on the west side on the down slope of the channel. Honestly, with this hot weather I would try that first if you are fishing during the day. That shade of the bridge really helps.

Thanks for your input everyone. Really appreciated. We tried the timber and the bridge, not too much luck. If I'm fishing during the day, its most likely going to be at the bridge, it's really just too hot right now to fish anywhere else.

Compared to what I normally do, fishing has been slow the last few days under the bridge in all my normal spots I hit. Tried different baits. The only real success I saw going on was at night with generators, high-power lights, cast nets and live shad. Too much of a setup for me to try in my small boat.

I think the fishing is just slow right now. Hardly any boats on the water.

I don't know anyone catfishing right now. Several are bream fishing in the early morning with good luck, but many have given up on the catfishing. Too hot for me right now.

i agree with divingcat...early in the morning is best time. once the sun has hit and 9 o'clock rolls around all bites vanish. my luck has been around baited bulk heads from about 5-8 a.m.

I am gonna be free to fish after the 15th July for a few days. Just don't know if I really want to do so. I really wish I had my rv back on the lake again so I could fish early morning, go back to the trailer, and then start fishing again in the late evening. Staying out in the hot sun all day is something I cannot do any longer; I might just be lazy but it is not a lot of fun fishing in 103 degree weather.

I have been fishing under the 1097 bridge at least once a week for a couple of months, and had good catches every time until last week. I don't know if the catfish have moved or just turned off. I always catch a few crappie and perch, a yellow bass or 2, but none this past trip. Anybody know whats happened? I think a low pressure system may be needed to improve the fishing. But that is a "wag".
