So im in the market of trying to buy a john flat bottom boat. Most of the boats im looking at though dont have titles, and was wondering how hard it is to get a title for them, if they do not have a title, but did have a bill of sale? Also, is there a way to repair small leaks and holes myself on these aluminum boats? Any advice will help. Thank you

You cannot register one without a title. You have to register it to put a motor on it. Don't waste you time on one with no title.

Could i somehow get a title for them, if they have never been registered for a title before?

You can look up on TPWD website to see if they have been titled. If you have the certificate of orgin, you can get a title. Most boats have been titled. The title may have been lost 20 years ago by the original owner. I just don't want to see you throw away $ on a boat that you cannot use with a motor.

Dont waist your time ,like stated above. Its a pain in the rear to get a title. You will have to locat the original owner and start from there.

Im just wondering here, if I was to go ahead and get this boat, and file for a title, could this boat be fixable, and is there a way or know anyone who could fix this? I am buying the boat for $75 and from they told me, it has no TX numbers and not known to have been registered.

Here are the pictures of the damage

It also has some small holes, maybe about 2-3 inches in diameter

You can find a better boat for about the same price.

Believe me, you are looking at much trouble there with the no title thing and the damage is excessive.......

You may come out ahead at the Can Man but NOT trying to fix that one. No title= nightmare.

When in doubt, jerk.

There are reasons why there are no titles...and you dont need to be caught in that mess...find one with a title and in better shape and you will be much happier.good luck!

It will never run out right even if you get the dents out of it.
Be patient, one will come along.

I would not bother with that boat. I have owned 2 small jon boats and have never had a title for either one. Both of them were registered at one time or another. It has been quite a while since I paid up the registration on the one I still have. I was thinking that small jon boat of a certain age were like small motors. If they were never titled, mine were not, then they are exempt.
