If you hadn't had a new boat in 20 years and you just got one and was going to head to Lewisville or Ray Roberts to catch Sand Bass (and Hybrids at Lewisville) what would you stock up on for topwater schooling action and slabbing? I am trying to get the best stuff and not waste money on junk. I would appreciate colors and weights you prefer also. If you see a new blue and silver 183 Elite Champion looking lost on either lake come snag me and lend a 52 year old newbie again a hand. Thanks guys.

I have had great success this year with Little George's & Bass Pro Spinner Baits in Chart and in Orange. I prefer the 3/4 oz. but seems Bass Pro never has the 3/4 oz. Chart in stock so I go with the 1/2 oz. Great lures for topwater action. I'll even let them sink to the bottom and slab with them every once in awhile. Prefer my TNT 180's for the slabbing though!
I do enjoy a good Squirt now and then.

I still haven't figured out the slab. Very little luck. I normally just buy the Bomber slabs Walmart sells.
For the top water, a spook or pop-r will work great.

For the top water, a spook or pop-r will work great. If you're not using your electronics to locate fish, you will have very little luck with the slab. Locate the fish Drop the slab Vary your retrieve until you find something that works. If you are still not having luck, try a different size slab.

As far as slabs go, there's several guys on here who make excellent slab jigs. The most versatile lure for your purposes - to second VIP's comments - is a tailspinner (little george, humdinger, mice).
You can fish it fast, slow, shallow, deep, surface, bottom, jig it etc. Have fun!

We use 3/4oz. lead head with a 4" Sassy Shad trailer. Pearl mostly, but in low light or stained water use chartreuse. Of course this eliminates all but the biggest of sandbass. Downsize to 1/4 - 1/2oz with smaller trailer for the sandies.
And love your choice of a new boat. I run a 191 Champ. Best boats on the water.

these are all u need right here: http://www.moestackleshop.com/estore/details/4029if theyre up top, cast it past them (dont let it sink) and burn it back as fast as u can. if theyre deep, try bouncing them off the bottom or make a long cast and jig it back to the boat while keeping it close to the bottom. if theyre suspended, find their depth and raise and lower it quickly. this is absolutely the most versatile bait out there. matter of fact, i need to place an order

For Hybrids I would use Moe's fiesta slab. Was at Hubbard Monday morning and Ruben put 3 keeper hybrids in the boat with the fiesta while I tried several other slabs with no bites. Put the fiesta slab on and hooked up within 5 minutes bouncing it on the bottom.

You Guys are awesome. Now to find the fish. Stuff is ordered and I will go buy more at academy and see what they have on my list. If I get in the way on Lewisville let me know. I take correction good. I may very well hook up with Boston Bob for education. I have been out a bunch with Cliff Spindle for Crappie. I want to hook into some of them dang Hybrids and magnum sandies and most importantly get my wife in them. She's already hooked but then I can buy all I need after that!

Not too much to add to what these other fellow have mentioned.
I like to fish a tag along above the slab and had good success last week with either the two or three inch white/pearl gulp grubs on a chartreuse roadrunner jighead, could fish those solo too.
As for top water I highly recommend either cotton cordell crazy shads in clear or silver/blue or heddon baby torpedos as a close second in similar color. I really like the crazy shad because they have propellers on front and rear and create more spit/splash.
Good luck out there! Tight lines.
