Fishes: LMB,Channle Cats, Bullheads, and a variety of sunfish
Where: Business Hwy. 69 north
Description: I catch alot of bass throwing 1/2 oz. orange rattle traps. Have caught some on shallow diving fat free shad as well. Plastics work in fall and spring. Channels are usually caught on the bottom using worms or stink bait. Sunfish bite on worms, minnows, canned corn, or bread. Great place to take little kids to fish.

Review: Twin Creeks Golf course

Rating: 3 out of 5
Availability: Go in the evening..half of it is not on the Golf course so you dont have to worry about getting tossed out...Spoke with course marshall already..he was cool with it
Fishes: LMB (Chunks) perch I'm assuming..and I have caught one bullhead
Where: Here
Description: I have caught some Nice..and I mean NICE bass out of here...I recently scouted this spot out and have only fished it 4 or 5 times...so Far I have banked a 5 lber, 3 4 lbers and a few 3's and alot of 1-2's. Baby and regular brush hogs work consistantly....wacky rigged wave worms lately as well...got a few on a Spinnerbait (double willow)..Not exactly "Kid" friendly but if you want to hook up with some nice sized Bucketmouths than this is it...pond is a little low...but it seems like it doesn't affect the bite very much

Review: Puddle of Sprinkler Water in my Back Yard.

Rating: 0 out of 5

Availability: Best time to fish is early in the morning, right after the sprinkler system is finished. Water depths of 2-3 inches common early. But be there early - by noon, it tends to all evaporate.

Where: My Back Yard

Description: Fishing has been tough going as of late. Surface baits and plastic worms both seem not to attract any bites. Water clarity was CLEAR, yet I could oddly not see any fish.
3 days of fishing this water body have yielded nothing. Looks like I need an invite to someone else's pond.

Thanks.

AggieSprit, you need some structure in there to attract the fish.
look into getting some hotels and houses from an old Monolopy game and put in there.

you might try to quit setting in the sun so much too. loco

Do something every day that makes you happy.
Fishing tops my list... Whooop - There it is! 😎

Review: Hermann Park Pond
Where: Houston, Texas - near the medical center
What: Bass, Carp, Sunfish

The only caveat to this pond is that the city of Houston has some ridiculous municipal regulation that restricts fishing in municipal waters to people younger than 12 and older than 65 (years old, that is). I've tried to talk to a civil servant who can explain this to me for 3 years, but have yet to hear a coherent response. I question this regulation because tax money, which 65+ and 12 years olds generally do not pay in large quantities, pays for the upkeep of the park. Anyway, I fish there anyway and have only encountered a few "urban park rangers" who care. I have fished here regularly for 5 years and have yet to be fined or ticked or anything.

The water is very, very clear most of the year. There is a lot of hydrilla and other grass. The bass are fat and happy, rarely fished by very selective given the water clarity. I have caught bass up to 7lbs (during the spawn it's ridiculous, since you can see up to 8 ft down pretty well with polarized sun glasses). Carp up to almost 40lbs. If you want to play around with a 4wt fly rod and catch tons of sunfish, you'll lose count in an hour or so.

A few examples:

The only patterns that work are as follows:
-weightless Zoom Trick Worms fished slow
-Zoom Horny Toad fished over floating grass or weighted down and slow rolled
-shaky head worms or jigs on beds
-if the hydrilla permits, rattle trap ripped through the tops of the grass

Just keep it clean if you fish there. The homeless people trash that place up enough without our help.

Thanks for the heads up...I fished it today for the first time and caught around 15 on a wacky dinger worm....nothing of any size but they were fun on spinning rig

Review:Twin Lakes Park

Rating:3
Availability:fishing welcomed, two ponds on both sides of Campbell
Fishes:lots of bass, sunfish, catfish, and others that people have put in
Where:here
Description: While there are many bass in here it is hard to get them because these ponds are over fished. Plenty of forage of sunfish, shad, and other baitfish. Rocky structure along bank, and aquatic plants further off the bank. Bass up to 10lbs and catfish up to 20 are the main highlights of the pond. other species that people have put in there are crappie, hybrid stripers, grass carp, and God knows what else (non-native fish). water clarity is usually fairly low, but last week you could see at least 8ft down with polarized glasses. That's when I saw a monster 10+ lb bass chasing schools of shad.

Review: Wildlife Blvd Pond in Grand Prairie (just north of Lonestar Park)

Rating: 1
Availability: fishing appears to be welcomed
Where: here

fished here from my little pond buster with a good friend and we didnt get so much as a bite. We did not find any part of the pond that was more than 5 ft deep. tried all different colors/types of worms, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, top waters and jigs. we dont claim to be experts but you would have thought we would hang something after 2+ hours of fishing. maybe somebody has had better luck

Ok you need to hit the water soon. You may have dry lines syndrome. Got my boat registered just in time for it to get real cold out.

Went to a pond in the metroplex on yesterday; you nevewr would have thought about fishing there. Within about 3 hours my friend and I banked about 20 fish that probably weighed around 40 pounds. The four largest were 5 - 6 pounds. What a day.

That Lake (tank) was one of the best in this area. I'm not sure if it is over pressured, but it used to hold some 10+ lb. fish. I fished it in the late 90's when it was still owned by the ranch. If you didn't come away with 10 or more fish over 5 pounds, it was a bad day. I have personally pulled two 9 lb. fish out of there and the kid who took us had pictures of 10+ lbers.

When it changed hands I quit going. That tank had an abundance of 5+ lb. fish. A++ rated tank for big fish. Wait until it gets warmer in March and go catch the big girls. Our best luck was on C-rig and T-rig worms/lizzards.

Review: Drainage ditch beside Holiday Inn on 121
Where: Grapvine, TX
Rating: 4
Availbility: price of a hotel room
Size: 1/5 of an Acre
Fish: LMB, big sun fish

Description: Went to an inservice school in Grapevine. Pulled into the hotel and see this ditch full of water with vegitation and cattails around it. Then splash, something hit he surface. Well I looked in and saw LMB. Asked the clerk if I could fish there and she said, "Knock yourself out cowboy." Luckily Bass Pro was nearby. Bought a cheap spinning combo and some green albino flukes. I spent every free moment fishing in that ditch. Probably caught 15-20 a day. Biggest was over 4 lbs. On day three I had company from a guy from the neighboring hotel who had watched me the day before. Wonder what that school was about...didn't learn a thing.

Review: Hi-Lions Lake off Pecan Valley Drive
Where: Southeast side of San Antonio (Community Lake)
Rating: 0
Availability: Free
Size: 10 acres
Fish: basically it's a duck pond, but has some LMB, sunfish

Description: Long neglected pond and stocked sparesly over the years. It has become overgrown with brush because of a treehugger mentality, and access to the bank is restricted to less than 10% of the shoreline because of over hanging limbs and weed and brush growth around shore and in the water.

I contacted the people who volunteer to keep watch over the park, but they tend to be more concerned about the ducks and hugging the trees than they do about making it accessable to fishermen. They claim that the brush is needed for nesting, and that the area is to be kept in a more natural setting with limited trimming and mowing. Thus the treehugger label I've given it.

Waste of time, unless you just like to hang out, hug the trees, and watch the ducks.

Really great pond for a small pond hopper boat. Amazingly clear, rocky bottom. Lots of ledges and mid lake humps. Not many places for bankbeating though. We went today and caught over 20 nice 1-3lbers. One good one that mighta went 4. Very nice scenery around the lake as well as the apartment pool that happens to be close smile.

Where: Downtown dallas on oaklawn and blackburn
Rating: 5
Availability: Free
Size: about 2 miles of creek
Fish: LMB,blue cats and channels

If you park in the parking area off blackburn and oaklawn you can catch some pretty nice size hogs. I used chartruse spinner baits and 7in black cherry culprit worms and when the sun is going down i used buzz baits. biggest i have caught there is about a 6 1/2 pounder lots of 4lbs and if you fish for cats you can catch some nice ones about 2-20lb cats using feeder fish from petsmart.

Gabbard Park in College Station, Tx

3 out of 5 (more fishing trips are needed)
Free
Pond is small but does have a fountain.

I fished this pond about 5 times and out of 4 times of fishing caught one small blue gill. The 5th trip ended up with 5 channel catfish and 1 blue gill using bacon. I'm not really a bass fishermen so i can't say if they are in there or not but 2 or 3 of the catfish were legal to take home. Because of the easy of fishing on the 5th day i give it a 3 out of 5.

Review: behind Best Buy/Home Depot, Waxahachie

Rating: 3
Availability: fishing welcome
Description: caught them on deep crankbaits, brush hogs, spider grubs, drop shot worms, ect....

Do not get me wrong, this pond has a ton of fish in it, they are just really small. I spent 2 days out there, it is a beautiful pond with about 10 ft visibility. 1st day, I spent fishing the flats and ledges on both ends of the pond, caught around 20 bass, nothing over 1.2lbs. Second day I fished deep water, humps, random structure in 17+ feet, ect, caught about 20 fish, nothing over 1.3lbs. I am sure there is a few 4lbs in here, but I get the feeling it was stocked in the last year or so, and the fish just need to grow up. Nice fun pond with a jon boat/bass buster. There is also some places to bank fish around it. Very pretty pond, if you are looking for numbers, it is great.

Bombay, that is a huge fish for there!

pond behind home depot in waxahachie has been SLOW lately. grass has taken over the bottom 2ft of the lake and fish are suspended. I did manage to snag a few bites on top water over shallow grass first thing in the morning but that was about it. water level is about 2ft low so its a great time to get out on a pond hopper and check for all the high spots you want to fish in the fall or spring. tough fishing though.

I fish two little ponds with my son in the Round Rock/Pflugerville area.

1. Old Settlers Park in Round Rock (Bright Lake).
3/5 Have caught LMB from 10-14 inches. Have talked to some guys catching 20+ inchers there but haven't seen them. Also have some perch/sunfish (total dinks) if you've got a little one that wants to fish. If you temper your expectations and can be happy with catching a couple of fish, you won't be disappointed.

2. Mills Pond in Wells Branch.
2.5/5 We catch channel cats there. My son and I have only gone a few times and have been catching some of the recent cats they stocked (anywhere from 10-14 inches). I've seen a couple LMB caught there but haven't caught any myself. Have also seen pics of MONSTER cats taken there...fish as big as my 6 year old. Also have the obligatory little perch as well. I would rate it higher if I had any bass luck here at all, but so far, just cats...about 7 or 8 a day over four hours isn't too bad.

Both are nice places to go if you've got a young one that's learning to fish (or if you're old like me and learning to fish alongside your young one).

Newbie fisherman.

There is yellow and blue cats in there as well. I never catch anything out there so it would be a 0 of 5 for me. Maybe you can show me some secret spots lol.

fishing available most of the time.
both ponds stocked every so often, don't know what with though.
i know there was a good supply of cats and sunfish available 1 1/2 to 2 years ago. plenty of parking available with picnic tables under shelter at the front pond. the back pond has limited parking on site, but plenty in area. the park is right off us 59 between the hospital and us 190. there is a couple of soccer field and some baseball fields in the park as well as the flea market on 3rd monday(i think. may be 2nd).

Converse Lake. This lake is also located in the City of Converse TX. (Northeast of San Antonio). It is a community lake that does not have any docks. Fishing is done mainly from the bank and small "John" Boats are permitted.

This lake has some very large Blue Gills and Redears. There are also some nice Channels and some very nice Bass. I have heard of some six plus being pulled from this lake. I personally have seen a couple of five ponders caught.

I would give this lake a 4 ratting just on the quality of the fish there. The water is mainly clear through out the year. During the summer there is a lot of moss that you have to deal with. Other than that for the most part it is a fairly easy lake to fish.

It would surprise me if there were Flatheads or Blues in that lake. I know that Parks@Wildlife did not stock the lake with those types of fish. Not to say that one or the other could have been released in the lake that had been caught some where else by an angler. Also the lake is not deep enough to support a blue. It could support a Flathead.I have never seen or heard of any of those types of fish being caught in that lake as well. Anyway there are a lot of good spots to fish on that lake. They are not hard to find. Even the dock(at night) is fair for some Channel Cats.
It is also a very easy lake to learn and fish. Good luck.

Burger lake in Flowermound is not open to the public. It is a private lake in which we lease the rights to. It is listed as Flowermound Furst Ranch on our web-site. It is a 37 acre private lake.

Review: Lake Pflugerville
Where: East of Pflugerville, Tx (Austin area)
Rating: 3.5/5
Availability: Free
Size: 100 acres
Fish: LMB, Crappie, Channel cats, sunfish

Description: Fairly new community lake built in 2006, deepest point 21 ft. Lots of shallow flats 2-4 ft deep. Starweed and American Pond weed beds in late spring and summer. 1/2 mile wide rock dam and secondary rock dividing structore opposite side of the lake. Stocked every year since 2007.

Fishing can be spotty and it does get crowded at times but it can also be awesome! There are some LARGE bass in here and good numbers of small to medium. Haven't caught a crappie yet and only one channel cat (On a flyrod) but lots of people say they have caught many. largest fish so far has been a 12 Lb. LMB that is pictured at the Pflugerville Dick's sporting goods.

I've personally had good luck with 4" Paca craws, senkos, blue/black spinnerbaits, baby spooks, and mayfly imitations on flyrod.

I've caught everything but crappie on a flyrod late spring to midsummer evenings near the weedbeds along the dam as a very strong mayfly hatch comes off right at dusk. it is literally non-stop as fast as you can reel in, release, and recast. Bass up to 3-4 Lbs and even one channel cat that went about 2.5 Lbs.

Great little community lake, no gas motors allowed. Kayak rentals on site during the summer. Nearest bait shop, Dick's in Pflugerville.

Politicians, baseball players, high-powered corporate CEO's they all seem to eventually let us down. Nature, however, does not. Review: George Bush Park
Where: Houston/Katy, TX (Hwy.6 and Briar Forest Entrance)
Rating: 3/5
Availability: Free
Size: 3 Ponds (maybe 5-6 Acres in Total)
Fish: LMB, Crappie, Spotted Gar

Description: These 3 ponds on Hwy.6 and Briar Forest (check on Google maps). These are man-made ponds where their water levels are fed by rain (part of the Barker reservoir flood plain).

Ive caught LMB and Spotted Gars with Black/Dark and Chartreuse color soft plastics. Crappie have been caught on nightcrawlers. All fish were CPR'ed. You can go to my 'Good-fish' profile to see most of my catches (Adan V).

I focus on LMB, but theres actually hardly any structure that provide good habitats for LMB. The bottoms are smooth clay. So I usually cast parallel to the banks for confidence.

The fish do get few and far in between. Ive sent an email to the administrators of Bush park asking them if the ponds are stocked regularly. They replied that the ponds do not have any fish (whatever).

Still, its a nice place to be outdoors without being out of the city. Its very quiet and nice. Ive seen deer, wild pigs, and hawks. Be careful, because there are snakes, black widows, etc also.

If you do go, PLEASE don't leave trash behind.

Review: George Bush Park (CREEK COVE)
Where: Houston/Katy, TX (Westheimer Pkwy)
Rating: 3/5
Availability: Free
Size: Maybe 2 miles in length
Fish: LMB, Spotted Gar, Carp, Catfish, Bowfin, Im sure theres other species too

Description: This a small creek cove that is fed by rain runoff from the flood plain project. You have to a walk a distance to get to it. If you want to get to every part of the creek, you will need waist high waders to walk through mud and knee high water. There are trees on both sides of the creek, each only 3-4 ft apart from each other, so you have to walk around for awhile to get good bank access and be good at Pitching/Flipping.
The water does get deep. BEWARE: Ive been informed to that there are alligators around. I have yet to see one, but Im keeping my eyes peeled.

Ive caught LMB (Good-size ones), Bowfin, and Gars using black/dark soft plastics. There are pockets of good structure (mainly sunken logs and standing timber) in many places for LMB. Carp and Catfish (Mudcat and Channels) were caught on Nightcrawlers and home-made bait. All fish were CPR'ed.
Again, you can check my Good-fish profile to see lots of them.

Some days are better than others (depending on the elements). I went yesterday evening after work, and I didnt get a single bite for 2.5 hours before having to head home.

Again, if you go, please dont leave your trash behind.

Nice info about the round rock area. I just found the old settlers pond a little over a week or so ago, haven't had a chance to fish it yet but would like too. Are those ponds good for bank fishing??

Review: George Bush Presidential Library Pond, College Station
Rating: 2/5
Availability: Fishing welcomed, catch and release only
Species: Bass, Bream, Cats
Location: Off of George Bush behind the library on Texas A&M Campus

There are small numbers of bass and bream in this pond and a good amount of catfish. All fish are TINY. No size whatsoever. Put in a good 10 hours on this pond over several days throwing several different lures and only produced 2 very small bass on a zoom craw. You can catch cats all day long with just about anything edible, but you probably won't catch one over 10" long. Side note: there are pipes and ledges running through this pond, so you WILL lose some lures and rigs. Overall not worth fishing unless you're desperate.

Review: Red Cane Pond in Arlington

Rating: 0-1
Availability: Fishing Allowed
Fishes: Supposedly Cats, definitely sunnies and minnows.
Where: 6500 S Cooper St Arlington, Texas 76001
Description: Not a clue what the best way is. DD caught a turtle, no shock since there were TONS. I've never seen anything like it. Including a hefty snapper! Did see plenty of sunfish and minnows in select areas. But 1/2 (at least) of the pond was covered, COVERED, in dead floating algae. Backside of it there was actually black water and smelled like a swamp. But we gave that side a go to avoid the extremely territorial geese on the 'park' side. They'd made a nest I think right next to the dock and anyone getting withing 20' was chased. Son thought it was amusing, but me not so much. Pretty sure they were Embdens, not known for hostility, but nesting brings out the worst. The others that were there were I think pilgrims or similar and didn't care much. Overall not worth arguing with the multitude of turtles to try and get a fish to bite... but the kids enjoyed the playground.

Elegance lies in simplicity.

Fished bethany lakes in allen today. Was in the main pond and managed 3 20"+ channel cats in about 30 minutes. All on a orange/chart 1/16th rooster tail!! Was great fun having my drag go wild and seeing my rod bend like that with light tackle.

Not a single bass...

Name: Crystal Lake (The Blue Hole)
Rating: 4/5
Availability: Fishing appears to be okay. Never been hassled.
Species: LMB, spots, bluegill (that I know of)
Location: Behind home depot in waxahachie
Description: A very deep, insanely clear old quarry with good structure and plenty of cover. This lake is a very healthy fishery that has abundant supplies of baitfish and vegetation. I've had several lmb out of here. Most have been small but considering this heat, I haven't been able to get where the big girls are. I think as the bass move shallower, you will be able to get some toads from the bank. Because of the thick grass on the bottom, its really hard to fish jigs and the like on bottom, so you're probably going to have to go weightless or get a solid reaction bite, which has been productive

When fishing a small pond, tactics lend themselves to the finesse approach.Mini-boats come in handy when a pond's perimeter has been ringed with vegetation, which is almost always the case. Rig them Texas-style, with a hook forced back into the worm. No slip sinker. Pinch a single BB-sized split shot to the line, six inches above the bait.

I was told by a fellow that some folks will dump some of what they caught from a lake in Lakeside for the kids to catch.I did not believe that, you are not supposed to do that. Then one day I caught my personal best catfish out of there weighing around 9 lbs.
No way a cat survived and grew in there to that size if not put in there by a fisherman. It made me wonder just what is in these ponds around DFW

I looked on google maps and didn't see any sort of water near it?

The homeless people trash that place up enough without our help.

wow i cant believe herman park has that kind of fish in it. I go to the zoo every now and then with my wife and son. (cuz i get in free for being a active duty soldier) http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/images/icons/default/grin.gif

But never thought to fish there. thanks for this info so when i get my bass pole ready i will surely go and try my luck. Thanks again

Yo i was looking at the rules and regulations of the park. I may keep 1 to eat but im strickly catch and release. depends on the fishing that day. if im bringing them up constanly then i may keep 1 but if they are hurting then its only going catch and release. but also in your pic it looks like your by the big water spout but on the map for fishing your only allowed to fish the left side or west side of the lake. where did you get yours at. and how strongly do they enforce that rule.

Good to meet you the other day, Soldier. Sorry the "Urban Park Ranger" (how much of an oxymoron is that??!) gave you and your buddy trouble.

I would LOVE to see a bass caugh on a topwater out at the park, but I've never been able to make it happen. That pond is so weird. Even at daybreak and dusk (when most ponds or lakes have all kinds of activity on the surface and fish breaking water, chasing bait, etc), the surface of that pond is calm. I've never seen a bass take something of the top, and I've tried poppers, walk-the-dog, buzzbaits, etc. If you have luck, let me know. I'd love to be able to catch topwater fish out there.

good meeting you there too medicine, but na its fine, I was sure we were going to get booted but it was just funny how he came up to us on his horse. not like im not going to go again. we had alot of fun and going to try it again next time till we get kicked again. he was the first one i seen that day so seems like they get a late start. so thats plenty of time for me to get some in. but ya i had a chug bug top water and no luck. like there lazy lol. but had alot of luck on white swimbaits, roster tails got bass and a bluegill, white fluks, and even on 7" watermelon seed worm. so all in all it was fun. thanks again. and will let you know if i get anything down the road.

iys been raining so im guessing that effects the fishing.. went a few times last week using spinning, zoom worms, zoom frogs and night crawlers and didnt catch anything. rumor has it that the fishing is good up the lake at a smaller creek but i paddled out there and the only thing i caught were blisters from cheap walmart oars.
will try again in a few weeks

If you are talking about the tank in Flower Mound you might want to contact Salex on here... He is with private water fishing and they have that lake under contract from what I understand.

the closest ponds I know of by 20/cooper is off of 360/20 behind the H.D. building, but with the new mall going up, dont know if they filled it in, and the other is south of Sublett on cooper at the park, a buddy of mine has caught some LMB out that little pond at least 2-4lbs.

Ponds in front of Ballpark in Arlington

Can't rate it yet
Lawn maintenance saw me fishing from bank, didn't say anything

Went by around 10am just to check it out with j hooks, worms and a bobber. Not well equipped just wanted to see what may be out there. Caught 2 small catfish (1-2 lbs. Sorry not sure what kind) in about an hour. The ducks and turtles kept messing with my bobber. Turtles were having fun pulling it down and all around. Will go back better equipped and let y'all know what happens.

Some friends and I went out there one night armed with bait shrimp a few days after the Kiddy Catfish Tournament. We fished the pond at the intersection of Randol Mill and Legends Way. We set up on the concrete culvert right where it turns out into the pond and stood on the little ledge there. We must have caught 50 catfish an hour that night. Most were small and we threw them all back as we were fishing just for the hell of it and didn't really want to be bothered with cleaning fish that night. I was literally using just a treble with about 5-6 feet of line played out and would bait with shrimp, dip the line, wait a few seconds and get bit. Lift out cat, rebait, rinse and repeat. We tore them up like that for about 3-4 hours. One of my most memorable fishing trips.

I'm pretty sure they all hold fish but i dont think they get too big, there should be bass and panfish in there but they stock trout in their during the winter, not sure when tho but i hope this helps!

Can you still fish here?

Pond_Hopper, use google maps and look around where you live and go wet a line. I have found many good ponds while doing this.

Timarron Estates has been good to me as well as the pond off Heritage Trace and Old Denton Rd in Ft Worth. It sits back in the neighborhood on the northeast corner. Watch out for the snakes though! They are everywhere.

Review: Sienna Plantation Pond
Where: Across from Scanlan Oaks Elementary, Missouri City, TX
Rating: 4
Availbility: For Residents
Size: No Idea
Fish: Bass

I have lived in Sienna Plantation and fished off and on. Middle school kids have been fishing the community and showing instagram pics of bass being caught. I have been jealous and it helped get my arrrsee back into fishing.

The pond directly across from Scanlan Oaks has bass. I have caught 3 to 5 on any given trip using a bass colored soft plastic, a craw dad rat l trap and yesterday with overcast and still water a top water frog colored torpedo.

1 to 3 pounders but I am just trying to get back into catching fish again.

There is no signs there. I seen a cop sitting on hebron and he didn't say 1 word to me when I was leaving. I only start the motor to back it off the trailer and put it back on. Other then that I use the trolling motor. Heard someone say they seen a 22ft ranger in there as well.

Hamilton Town Lake, Hamilton, Texas
Rating: 2
Availability: Open to the public
Fish: Bass, Bluegill, Carp, few bullhead and flatheads

This is a very interesting lake to fish, it has an abundance of bass and bluegill with other species being almost absent as far as I can tell. I have netted and hook and line fished it many times and caught many bass and bluegill in the net and some large bass on hook and line. What baffles me is the aparent absence of catfish, the pond is deep and rocky with very diverse cover, I have however heard of people catching bullhead and flatheads but havent caught any despite many days of fishing. Maybe I'm not fishing it correctly or maybe its over fished, who knows!

Unknown Name - Allen Texas
Rating: 4
Availability: Public
Fish: Bass, Bluegill

This particular Pond is not heavily fished because most people think it's there for looks. It's on Stacy road in Allen Texas, East of the Allen Convention Center and just South of In-N-Out burger (behind it).
There are tons of perch/bluegill and there are lots of small bass. I haven't caught any bass of significant size, but there are lots of them. The perch also get big in that pond. There some they weigh about a pound. Best time to go is spring through fall. You can still catch during the cold weather months, but it's not as easy. During the spring-fall, you can catch anywhere between 10-15 an hour if using the correct bait. I've never used live bait there and the best that I've done was 30 bass is 2 hours. They may not be big, but if you are wanting to have younger kids/children get interested, this would be a good place to take them. That being said, I wouldn't take small children there, but a child over the age of 5 I would think be ok. The edge of the bank can be a little tricky in some area's and I wouldn't want any small child to fall in. This is a great pond that I fish regularly and always leave catching at least a few. I'm sure if you were to take live worms/nightcrawlers you would catch so many your hands would hurt.

Glendover Park - 1290 Scottsman Dr Allen, TX 75013
Rating: 3
Availability: Public - Catch and Release only
Fish: Bass, Perch and Catfish

This city ran pond works great for catfishing anytime. It has a dock that you can fish off. Some of the catfish are good sized. I've personally caught a 5 pound catfish in there. Raw bacon seems to be the trick. Stays on a while and catches more.
There are lots of small perch/bluegill/sunfish in this pond and kids can walk around this one easily as there is a sidewalk and very little trees or bushes. There is not any real sudden change in the ground so young children are welcome here. The pond is a little deeper than some other and that allows the fish to grow. I've caught a couple bass that were 3 pounds and I've seen bigger caught there. This pond can be very tricky though for bass fishing. The best times to go is a warmer overcast day or early mornings. Late in the day can produce well but overcast is the big key. Live bait works well here but artificial can produce just as well. I've caught them on cranking baits, soft plastics and top water.

The red Oak pond is a bust.
They drained the pond and enlarged it.All the fish went down a creek.
Whats left, who knows? but it will not be much.

Thanks for the reply. I am guessing they drained it back in 09 if I am not mistaken? Has anyone fished the Bear Creek pond in the Bear Creek Nature Park?

I would give this lake a 4 ratting just on the quality of the fish there. The water is mainly clear through out the year. During the summer there is a lot of moss that you have to deal with. Other than that for the most part it is a fairly easy lake to fish.

Featherlite Converse
Rating: 3.5
Availability: fishing welcome even when the gate is closed
LMB,Crappie,Bluegill,Redear Sunfish, green sunfish, Channel and yellow cats
Where: Located behind the little league fields in Converse Park #2
Description: The largemouth can be caught with Senko's, finesse worms, trick worms, baby brush hogs, craws, small jerkbaits, crankbaits, topwater, spinnerbaits.
There are two ponds which from my understanding are the result of an old strip mine. They have been there atleast 50 years at full pool they are joined by a canal.
The first one is the deepest 15-20 at full pool. The water is normaly clear down to 6 feet. The bass can be challenging to catch but I have caught bass up to 6lbs from here and have heard stories of bigger. My best luck has been senko's, small swimbaits, or small crankbait medium divers.
The second one isn't as deep only reaching 10 feet in the middle. The water clarity isn't as good but can also be clear up to 3 feet. The bass seem to be easier to catch in this one but I think it's because they are more closely concentrated to the bank vs the deeper one. I caught more fish on reaction baits generally speaking but pretty much every bait I listed. I caught bass up to 5lbs in this one but actually saw a guy catch a 7lbr. Great place for topwater especially late summer. I've had my best days when it was windy and overcast and the late bite has always been best. I really enjoyed fishing these while living in San Antonio for 20 years they taught me a lot and the first one can be very challenging. I've never been skunked as much at any other place I've fished consistently in my entire life with that being said once I reallized the bass were very seasoned and was willing to change my approach and down size line and lures and fish overcast days more than blue bird days I could consistently catch a few bass usually 1 or 2 atleast 18". Still one of my favorite places to bank fish My son caught his first bass and bluegill here as well as some memorable experiences with minnows!

Review: Lake Vial at Warren Sports Complex
Rating: 4
Availability: Fishing welcome, 2 piers, well groomed shore line with accessibility 360* around the lake, great fishing form the dam
Fishes; Largemouth bass, from dinks to 3-4lb range personally caught last weekend, large Koi/goldfish and carp seen feeding, and I am told catfish can be had
Where: off Eldorado Pkwy just west of Preston Rd in Frisco Tx
Description: best luck I've had is off the damn, hydrilia line in water 4-5 ft out, 4-5ft depth, high water clarity, most catching done on drop shot rigged baby bass 3-4" flukes fished slowly with about 18" under the hook to weight. Bite has been very hard hits. Unable to fish effectively with much save for plastics and top water, snot grass kinda bad at present... didn't have any luck top water though the action was there at sunset, and targeting the fish after they broke water I was able to get them out with the drop shot as mentioned... tried zara spook, buzzing zoom horny toad on surface, hula popper, no luck on blow ups but the fish were happy to bite when tossed plastics where they were eating.

I grew up fishing this lake. I've caught bass up to 7 lbs. and catfish over 12lbs. We would always set lines for cats, very seldom did we fish with R&R for cats. I can tell you that there are catfish in there and next time try small perch for bait. 2-3 inch perch are best. The point directly across from the damn is where I've had the best luck. Great little lake, would be awesome to own a lake this size and stock it with huge LMB. It has great cover and is deep like you mentioned.

Fossil creek golf course has some pounders in their ponds. Creature baits or worms do the job. Catch 20 a day in the one pound range.

Review: Central Park Pond #1, College Station, Texas

Rating: 3
Availability: Public Fishing Welcomed
Fishes:
  • Catfish, Channel
  • Trout, Rainbow
  • Sunfish

Where: 1000 Krenek Tap Road, College Station, Texas
Description:
Central Park Pond #1 is the pond with the Sailfish statue. It is the only pond in College Station that is stocked by Texas Parks & Wildlife.

Fished here regularly in the Winter when Trout were being stocked. Lots of people come out to fish after stock dates, and have claimed that Power Bait was successful. I tried spoons, plastics, Power Bait, stink bait, and crankbait without success. The only Rainbow Trout I caught was using a live grub. I'll continue trying to catch Trout while they are being stocked. May try for Channel Catfish when they are stocked, but I have a better pond for Catfish.

best way to fish here
  • Catfish: Stink Bait
  • Trout: Power Bait

Review: Richland College Lakes

Rating: 3
Availability: fishing welcome, no fishing off campus bridges or certain ledge areas
Fishes; Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, Drum, Carp
Where: 12800 Abrams Rd Dallas Tx
Description: I only fish for largemouth there, the biggest I've seen was super shallow and probably 2-3 lbs. I've caught a few over one and a lot under. Wacky Zoom finesse worms work great around stick ups and shaded areas. Shallow cranks and jerkbaits around the fountains and drain pipes also do well. The dam near walnut is where I've caught most of my fish.

Had the pleasant experience of meeting this guy today. I decided to try out these ponds but was only there about 30 minutes before this guy threatened to call the cops if I didn't leave. He was extremely rude and claimed there were signs that said it was private property but there wasn't one where I parked. In the short amount of time I had to fish I had a bite on a Yamamoto senko but that is about it.

Review: Colonial House Lake, Carrollton

Rating: 1-2
Availability: Fishing is allowed
Fishes: Sunfish, unsure if bass or catfish of good size are present
Where: Colonial House Lake, Carrollton, TX 75007
Description: Fished here for a few hours and didn't get any bites on my bass baits (mainly large swimbaits and senko). Water was very cloudy so it was hard to see any weed-lines or underwater structure. Bank access can be hard to get as the majority of the lake is surrounded by vegetation. Caught several small sunfish on nightcrawlers, biggest was about 5" or 6". Put a smaller sunfish on a hook for bait but didn't get any bites.

Review: City Lake Park in Royce City

Rating: 3 Star

Availability: Public park with a large pond, lots of cover, reeds, downed trees.

Fishes; blue gill, I heard there is cats, spotted bass, small mouth. (Havnt caught a large mouth but I heard they are in there.

Where: Here is the exact location.

The banks were decent with a crank bait and swim baits. I usually go before sun down, or early morning. Fishes: Bluegill, Gar, Carp, Bass
Where: Intersection of Luna Rd and Capital Pkwy

Any ponds/creeks that are decent in the Fort Worth area? I've fished Greenbriar and parts of the Trinity, skunked on both.

I've seen a lot of people fish here and never catch anything, but there are some videos on youtube of people catching bass in here. My guess is that they caught them right after stocking. I haven't tried it myself as it seems futile.

Has anyone tried the Wheeler park pond in San Antonio by 151, Ingram and Potranco? It's right in front of some apartments or something and there doesn't seem to be any public parking nearby so maybe it's not open to the public?
