On Sunday T. Dub discovered dunking your towel or hat into the ice chest water then put it on your head. It was greatness!

Here's a technique my buddy taught me years ago when we were painting houses outside. Take a long-sleeve shirt, preferably button-up and something that's baggy so the air flows through it, and simply wet it down and put it on. Doesn't have to be in ice-water, if your body tempature is up around a hundred it's still gonna take some effort to get it on the bod anyway. With the slightest breeze it'll feel like air-conditioning for a good two hours. I didn't like the feel of wet cloths and so it took me the longest time to try but after I got miserable enough working in the heat I did and it works wonderfully. Still do it today but seems like I always wait 'till I'm roasting before I do. And seriously, talk about refreshing, like fishing in the shade on a cool day!

In this heat when either riding the bike or fishing I wear my standard long sleeve white dress shirt. I don't wear suits anymore and they were just hanging there. It will make a difference and you look professional too. thumb

We take several towels and put them in ice water. Take one out put it around you neck. After a while we will replace in the water and get another one out. Feels great on those hot days!

I have some ties that go around your neck. They have some filler material in a sleeve that ties around your neck. Those little beads soak up water and get soft inside the sleeve full of water. Then put them in a baggie in the fridge. Drop it in the ice chest when you go and change out. I have 3, leave them in the ice a big zip lock bag, one around your neck, when it gets warm change it with a cold one. If you have 3 it lasts a long time that way, just keep putting them back and 2 are always in the ice ready.

The wet shirt helps too, Magellan brand fishing shirt from Academy works great.

Just pay attention to the men that are out on these mowing crews all day long. There is a reason they wear a long sleeve button up baggy shirt over a thin t-shirt. The t-shirt holds perspiration and the long sleeve shirt shields the sun and lets air move through the baggy shirt and they stay cooler. They also wear a thin towel over their head that they get wet between jobs to shield the sun off their neck, thus keeping their temp down. Trust me, it works, these men work 10 to 12 hours a day for me in 100 degree heat like it is nothing.

You can do the same thing while out fishing on the lake.
