Most people who go to lake hamilton for a weekend or week to fish will tell you they did not catch a thing and I used to be one of them. You guys seem to be doing pretty good for this lake, have fun and do not forget to go up to Blakely dam and enjoy the scenery. keep me posted and tell me how things are. going. If you are used to fishing Lake Whitney well there is no comparison and it might be a disappointing trip

Where is the Blakely dam located? And when you mentioned clear water and spawning bass on the north end, do you mean up past the highway 70 bridge?

let me explain it a little better, when u go into hot springs creek it makes a T, we went to the right and then u run into a bunch of creeks or canals the whites were out in front of all those creeks, was that were the bigger fish were too?
we tried to go up to the blakley dam yesterday, we got up little past the hot springs pump station and then it started raining so we headed back, the water was already 30 degrees colder and the water was crystal clear, what should we throw up there?

I was told they were spawning once you go under the 70 bridge (coming from southern end of lake)take a left, i do not remember if this is a big bay area or cove. This was several weeks ago so this may not be true anymore, but I would think that from there up you could find them. The further up you go on the lake the colder the water temp. You can usually tell when the water is getting colder because the air will get colder. I am not sure what the water clarity is like here, but I would use trick worm or some type of plastic lure, white spinnerbait reeled fast. I left before I had a chance to make it up there to fish so I would not be able to tell you exactly where to go. I can say that I did very well in the hatchery area for largemouth using topwater or plastic. They have tournaments every tuesday, thursday and friday nights and they let the bass go at the hatchery ramp. There is also some good fishing for crappie and whites, hybrids there too. Just remember what i said about being careful and watch for shallow areas. Look on your map before venturing into this area there are no buoy markers.

Blakely dam is up north on lake hamilton, Quacita is about it. Make sure you look at map before trying to go up there or you may take a wrong turn

In regard to area of hot spring creek. Yes it is that area where they break alot. If you are using standard small lures for whites that may be why you have not caught bigger ones. I was out there one day and there is a guy who fishes out there every morning. I was throwing my Heddon Spit n Image and catching really nice ones and he commented on the size of them and asked me what I was using. Even if there are alot of small ones around the bigger will come up and get. Of course you can tell when the bigger ones are there because the breaking is louder.
You are in the right area, the best spot is right in front of a very small point at beginning of canal on the side where the condos are, the condos are in the canal that takes you to the big cove. I would throw a topwater or 1/2oz rooster tail up to the bank and reel it back in and catch them this way.

Let me clarify a little further on the point i am talking about. When you take a right into hot springs creek and go back to area where there are coves once you get to that area there is a canal on left leading back into big cove, fish the last small point on the right before you go into canal, condos are right next to it, it does not have any houses onit just trees.

Well if they are not schooling out by the point, go through canal where there is big open cove, take a left once you get to cove and sometimes they are back there. If not there then once you enter hot springs creek and take a right go all the way back to the cove(looks more like canal) and they break back in there sometimes. They are there you just have to find out where they are, I am speaking of morning time not afternoon. They also break alot by the hwy 7 bridge, if you come out of hot springs creek take a right there, or just look at map, there are two crossings for hwy 7 bridge on lake, go to the one to left if coming from hot springs creek or far right if from other part of lake. In the canal area they are breaking out there every morining starting at around 6 am. They also break back in Williams Creek a big cove in different areas you just have to look around. Lake Quaticta is a good lake only fished it once and do not know anything about this. Like I said earlier, the couple of times I went to Hot Springs creek in the afternonn i did not see any breaking fish. I have seen breaking fish in the late afternoon to evening in William Creek more often. My expereince on this lake is morning is best. I would go further up the Lake past the 270 bridge to catch largemouth they could still be spawning in the backs of coves and pockets. Before I left I was told that KElley Creek had loads of fish in it, whites, crappie, and largemouth. This is the last creek on the left before you get to Blakely dam. Looks like I will not be able to make it this week, you are making me really miss hot springs

sorry sometimes you have to go to more areas to find them but they are schooling some where in the mornings for sure. If you are not using a roadrunner chartreuse head and white grub then that is a mistake, you can buy a package of the heads for a couple of dollars, believe me i was there for over a month and this was the ticket for whites. I would also think that you need to go further up past the 70 bridge the water is much clearer up there and sandies love clear water. I never went up there because i was in a ski boat that guzzled gas really bad and just going from williams creek to hot springs creek would cost me $25 in gas a day. Fortunately, i will have different boat to fish out of next time i come. Are you only fishing for whites. If you are fishing for largemouth and not using the zoom red bug trick worm or any zoom red bug worm then that would be a big mistake too. In the mornings and very late afternoons you can catch largemouth in the shallow areas where there are isolated brush on the bank, most points and rock points are great. Lake Hamilton is not a very easy lake at all and it took me time to figure it out, but once I figured it out I starting doing really good. I also used zoom red bug on Lake Quaticta and did very well whereas the person I was with used carollina rig and other stuff and caught 0 and he fishes this lake almost every weekend. Trader Bill's has all the lure recommendations I have told you about, they are on Albert's Pike right across from Walmart.

It is not to bad on the weekends if you go out real early in the morning up until about 12, after that forget it the waverunners will drive you crazy. Lake Hamilton has been very different this year due the flooding, Quacita got higher than it has ever been, i was there before this happened and the big ones were breaking great back in Hot Springs Creek. They are changing the water level daily, and also the water that is flowing in is extemely cold because it is comeing from the bottom of Lake Quaticta which is 400ft deep above the dam, it really messed up the Crappie spawn. If it has been raining alot Hot Springs creek will be too murky to fish but all you have to do is go to northern part of lake and you will find clear water. I really would try and go up and find the spawners, it might not be as crowded there either not real sure. I was told that they break back in the Little Mazarn and at the entrance to the Big Mazarn. I just cannot believe how bad the fishing has been this year, ususally by the end of June the Largemouth are breaking back in Hot Springs creek everyday. I would just start going to some of the other creeks, alot of times I see them breaking right out in the middle of the creekk. Did you try Williams Creek yet, the water there is usually clearer and fish break back in there alot during the mornings and afternoons. William's Creek is right across from the 7 Bridge or right across from where they park the Belle there is also Gilligan's Restaurant and it will be across from both of them. If you go to the highway 7 bridge from Hot Springs Creek and go through the right part it should be right in front of you, if you go through hwy7 bridge to the far left then you would need to turn right and go until you see a big open cove, go to the back of there for breaking fish. If you enter from the far left side of bridge there is a point right across from you that will have huge rocks, definetly fish that, with medium profile white spinnerbait, caught some really nice ones there. This whole area is part of Williams Creek and I have seen them breaking off of this rocky point before but doubt they will right now because of all the boats. I would not venture to Williams Creek in the afternoon on a Saturday because it is a very poplular cove for skier's and waverunners, you will be okay in the morning, it is just to early for the partier's. Also in this area right out in the middle of everything there is a huge hump that goes up to about 4ft to 7ft, it is kinda out where you would not think it is. Also there are a lot of drop offs in Lake Hamilton and I had not had a chance to fish them yet but I would try to find some. I was also told before I left that the bigger largemouth where on brush in 20ft-30ft of water, i would think this would be the case in Southern part of Lake since the water is much warmer. What lake do you like to fish on in Texas?

Oh by the way if I would have stayed in Hot Springs I was planning on learning more about the Lake so I could guide part-time, I really enjoy putting people on to fish.
