I was on Tawakoni Sunday with the wife from about 9:00am to noon, my first time out in my old boat since March. It was so blasted hot we ended up under the bridge most of the time. I had one pole out with a shad and picked up a couple of 3-4 pound blues and was practicing my casting with my open face reel on my other rod (darn those blasted backlashes) and changing out different lures. I tied on a blue holographic TNT slab and cast it down the bridge line right at the shadow line and as soon as I started to reel it back it was hit and I reeled in a Sand Bass measured 17 inchs, I was exited for some one who does not cath fish very often. I cast out to the same spot and caught another one about the same size on the very next cast.
We had a fish fry for supper and it was good.
I know that 4 fish is a wasted trip for most of you on this board but it was a blast for me.
Just thought I would share, I always enjoy reading others post and have learned a lot on this forum.
Best wishes,
Gary

Ya gotta luv those TNT slabs.
Now just go out in the middle of a huge school and see how much fun it is then.
Good luck.

A 17 inch White Bass is an excellent catch...on any lake at any time. WTG!

No trip is wasted as long as you all enjoyed it. Enjoying your day is what's its all about. It would be too bad IMO to diminish your day, in any way, because of comparisons to perhaps overstated reports on the internet.

+1 on the schools! Man when you get in on the action of schooling sandies it is absolutley a blast. I had them blasting all around me for like an hour a couple of weeks ago ! A nasty storm finally convinced me to get off the lake.

congrats on the cast shipster- that bridge is a good place to hang out in the middle of the day

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

thumb Though you hear about a lot of people catching hundreds of sand bass, very few of them have ever caught one that is 17". That is a hog!!!! Anytime you can go out with the wife, catch fish and then have a nice little fish fry, it's a good day smile

WELCOME!WTG Shipster..Those are darn nice fish there!

And if we all caught tons of fish they would call it "catching",but that is not the case that is why it is called "fishing".Some days are better than others, but you will get your bad days mixed in there.Just keep your head up and enjoy the relaxing time out there with the family!

TNT Slabs - catching 20,000 plus per year - that can not be a wrong thing to do.

Enjoy the fish fry's,

welcome sounds like a good day to me....you were fishing.

Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.
