I'm looking at buying a 87 champion with an 88 Johnson 175 L2CO. I've been away from fishing and boats for a long time while traveling for work...no more traveling, back to fishing. Anyone have anything good or bad to say about this motor in general. I know Johnson has a decent rep, but sometimes everyone screws up and makes a bad product. Just hoping this isn't one of them. Of course, I'll take it in and have it checked out, but trying to save some time.
thanks
dave

BidCaller,

i have a 89' 150 Johnson and its on its 3rd boat.. Chanpion, Hydra Sport and now Skeeter and still running strong. I keep looking for a newer one but just cant justify the price as long as its still running good.
i run it a little richer than 50:1 and it just keeps going.
its not quite the same but very close to what you are looking at.

Good motors but would change all oil lines and their clamps if they hav`nt already been changed. Those plastic clamps are a joke. If it has been changed over to pre-mix would even be better. They need water pump and all cooling system components serviced more often because of the water cooled voltage regulator.

Sounds great, I got hung up working, but if the boat is still there on Sunday, it just might be mine. Thanks for the info.

Great advise on any older model I would think. Thanks for bringing it up, I wouldn't have thought of it.
