well started the day at 7am.fished until 11am.was useing dead shrimp and cut bait. caught 27 sand trout to 2lbs, caught 20 bull whiting biggest was 19" long.caught 30 throw back black tip sharks.also caught some ribbon fish which was used as bait.in all it was a good day. i was fishing the surf off the sea wall on one of the rock jetties.the fish were still biting when i left.noticed huge schools of mullet all around.till next time good fishin to all.

maybe you should leave the beer at home for the fish fry and not the fishing. thats what i do and it works great.

Where is this? Port A, Galveston, Rockport? I live about 40 min from S. Padre Is. I fish the surf a bit, but usually come up with some whiting and maybe a skip jack or two. Biggest thing I ever caught out there was 18# Jack Creavelle.

always, how far down the sea wall do those jettys go? we usually fish near ones around the academy or around the destructed flagship..never ventured farther down.

i fish the ones closest to the flagship.and the one past murdocs.they go down for a ways.there are probably four more past the flagship towards the ship channel.also if not bitting in surf go to ship channel at end of sea wall.fish off the granite rocks to the left.all kinds of action down there from time to time.

Oh alright....Thanks for advise. Dont know when Ill be down there again. We used to stay at the flagship and fish off their pier, always had fun action from sharks, sand trout.....i just wish they would rebuild it....

Well, it was a nice fish, but the problem is I caught it 6 years ago and the biggest since was a 24 in skip jack. I know that people catch more in the surf - I dont have huge gear so I cant get 3-400 yards out. My Amb 9000 will only hold 200 yards of 30lb test. At best at low tide I can get past the second sand bar. I usually go with the wife and 4 yr old so the jetty is out of the question, therefore, I really want to know how to catch other stuff in the surf. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Always...where is this jetty you are talking about? Is it Port A, Galveston, etc.?

we are talking about galveston off the sea wall.hey hoggwild last i heard they are not going to rebuild the flagship.they are making the owners pay out the rest of there lease, after that landry's is going to turn it into a board walk park with rides a games.dont know if they are going to leave the pier to fish.to mnmhough21 you dont always have to fish very far out. some of they best fish i catch are right beside the rocks.i use a single drop rig with a 1oz wieght and a dead or live shrimp and drag it obout 10 feet from the rocks.also use cut bait and cast as far as you can.i cast about 150 yards off the end of the rocks hope this helps you. if you want more info pm me.

WOW, you must have some MAD arms and pole to cast 150 yards on a 1oz weight with cut baits. I have never seen anyone done it. What kind of rod and reels and what kind of setup do you have to be able to cast 150 yards on a 1oz weight?
