I was fishing Cedar Creek from the bank and had 2 guys from South of the Border walk up on me. They weren't Mexican more from el Salvador or some place farther than Mexico. One guy had a grey eye and 1 white eye, weird looking. He was looking at my stuff while the other talked. They came up with the normal small talk, is there any fish biting? It just that one kept trying to get in front of me and the other behind me about 3-4 feet from me. So, I kept moving myself around as not to be a easy target. I really dont know if they were trying to do harm or just comfortable. I was not comfortable and not looking for freinds either. I was getting to the point to tell them to move on but a jeep came up and these guys moved on. I went to the car and strapped on my pistol just in case. Sure enough they came back but this time with my pistol in plain view and being very short and staring them down they left really quick.
About 2 hours later about 2am I could hear some thing onthe other side of the trees , sounded like some one talking. I get my 3million candle power spot light and fire it up and sure enough 30 yards from me theres a white guy with no shirt(looked a little wild looking) and two girls walking toward me from the highway. Like I said I turned on the spot light and they stopped in their tracks. The guy started saying that there car broke down and he had money but needed help. He was persisntent and I thought I might have to pull my gun since I told him about 5 times I could not help them and for them to move on. There was a gas station about half a mile away that they passed and it had a pay phone, so that seemed wierd. He kept trying to walk up to me but with the spot light he could not see. Finally I told them I could help by calling the cops. He said what are they going to do? I told him they would give him a ride home, since we are in the middle of nowhere . Both the girls quickly told him no, lets go. About 30 minutes later the cops roll by with there spot lights checking the area out from the highway, I take it they were looking for these characters. With all that and the rat that kept coming up and trying to take my stink bait, oh ya and the snake, I decided its time to go.lol

Tin Head, thank god they did not try anything with you.. When night fishing, whether its on a pier saltwater or from the bank or boat doing freshwater,if you can carry some heat..you need to.We are easy targets out there.Wish you the best next time.

Alone at night and out in the middle of nowhere, you are automatically a target.
I've had similar things happen to me but I always had the upper hand.
It may be they needed help but you can usually tell right away the difference between someone needing help, and someone just wanting to approach to check you out.
You have to go with your gut instinct, and I'd say you did all the right things, and it will be hard for you to do that again, "alone" that is!
Just one more cast!

And that is why there's a 2nd Amendment. Thank God you didn't have to fully utilize it Tin Head. That was a very successful outcome to a potentially bad situation. By how you described it, this really seemed more suspicious than not (both issues). I would have had to swallow the lump in my throat and got my 45 auto ready also.

Man, that's a scarry situation. I would not want to have to shoot someone and live with it but would do whatever I had to in defense of myself or my family.

Tin Head, you need a spanking and be sent to bed without desert for not having that iron on your hip the minute the sun went down, or before. It's like insurance...when you need it, it's too late to go get it.

Like they say... it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

yeah this is sad we cant fish at night without the fear of wacko's out there...my uncle was jumped fishing, and before he knew what was going on they dropped a rock on his head beat the snot out of him, took his wallet(his money was in his shoe thank god) and then stole his car....this was in the late 90's and the only thing that saved him was running into the lake and floating there, which they still sat there and threw rocks and bricks at him, then they took off in his car...he ended up with 40+ staples in the top if his head and back eyes for months. He had fished this place alot by himself before this accident which might be the reason he was targeted....very sad story, and a true reality as to why i never bank fish alone at night...if i feel the need to fish at night alone, its always at lewisville barge, lit up and safe, be careful out there, i've been thinking about getting my license to carry now that i fish alot more
I thank God for each day!

Your Uncle is glad to be alive, as they obviously wanted to do more than just rob him.
And I agree what the others said about when the sun goes down, but I would take it even another step, and say be prepared even before the sun goes down, as nowdays it can be broad daylight and those crack heads could care less.
I guess the older I get I pick my areas more carefully, where I fish even though I have a CHL, and places that I know I'm going to be alone, like going to the deer lease out in the middle of nowhere, my head is always on a swivel, and my eyes and ears alert, and I'm always heavily armed.
Like I said I may be approached, but I will be prepared!

Cedar Creek is not the best place to be at night and alone.
If you do have to shoot a person, Do not talk to the police, they can use anything you say against you.
You only need to tell the police, "I feared for my life, I want to call my lawyer"
