Greetings to everyone, from the Brazos Basin.
I have some good news...
The "Dog Days" of Summer do have relief.
Especially when it comes to oversize Brazos River Largemouth for the enterprising Kayak River Basser looking for some piscatoral pleasure in the Texas heat.
I recently found some time to do a recon mission at one of my private access stretches on the Brazos. The gameplan was to spend a evening and a morning scouting out the bite ahead of upcoming guide trips scheduled in this locale.
It had been a few weeks since my last visit. However, I arrived to find the river largemouth bite in a typical Summer pattern and the fish hitting in full swing.
Few things compare to the ferocity of these river bass when they start blasting your offerings from the kayak. I must say, it was a real hoot getting pulled around in the yak by these super-charged river fish.
There were times when I was not quite sure who had who as they bulldogged me in and around cover while trying every trick in the book to rid themselves of my hook.
"The hotter the better" is my mantra for this seasonal pattern.
I won't bore you with all the little guys that were CPR'd.
Heeeeeere fishy, fishy....

Double your pleasure, double your fun!
Ever have another fish follow your hooked fish all the way to the kayak?
If you have have two rod holders on your yak. You can stash the hooked up rod in one holder with the fish still in the water, while you grab the other pitch bait rod and quickly get it in front of the "follower".
By utilizing this tactic, anglers can find themselves in the midst of a unassisted double like this one.

However, more often than not, one this size is a handfull in itself.

Here is one fish I wish I could have got a better picture of. Doh!

Judging from the outcome of this mission, I'd say that there are going to be quite a few River Run Guide Service customers in for a real treat this Summer.
In addition to the fantastic fishing, the other thing I like about this stretch is I never saw another human being the whole time!
Tight lines everyone.
