I finally made the switch. I premix so I siphoned the rest of my old gas from the tank and switched to synthetic oil. It made a HUGE difference. My boat idles better, very little to no smoke and not much of a 2 cycle smell. It was a great move. I found out that most NAPA stores sell Amsoil. They may not carry the 2 cycle stuff though. They can order it for you though. They made me order a case of quarts which is three gallons. I have no afiliation with Amsoil. I was just impressed with the product and wanted to let you guys know.

I have a question. I just decarbed my motor and changed the plugs about 10 hours ago. I have read to decard your motor when you make the switch. Should I decarb again or just not worry about it? I figure that the Sea Foam shoulf take care of anything else. What do you guys think?

Paul, I just did the same and I had the same results.
I did the decarb before and added the oil and it ran great this weekend.
I got my oil from an Amsoil dealer named Jerry Dawson and he was great to work with. He is down in the Keller area I believe. He met me and I purchased it from him at that time.
I plan on adding a half a can of seafoam every other tank(13 gal) for keeping it clean. Good luck!!!! Allen

With Amsoil, there is no carb/soot to build up inside. Keep an eye on the inside hub of your prop. After a few tanks of gas run through it, you will start to notice how clean it will become (the inside of hub). The black soot will soon go away. On another note, I recall you saying you had an older motor like maybe a 88 Johnson 175 or so.. If this the case you shouldn't be running the HP Injector for it is intended for DFI/EFI motors. If this the case you should be using the Saber oil.

I have a 1977 Johnson. It calls for 50:1 premix. The amsoil site says that the HP injector can be used for premix. It looks like the Saber oil is for 100:1. Not sure what I missed.

Thanks! I had heard it was good stuff. I have really been impressed so far. It actually isn't much more expensive than the stuff I was using, maybe a few $ a gallon.

I've been running the HP Injector for 2 years in a '04 250XS with great results. The inside of the hub on my prop is virtually soot free now and NO I haven't cleaned or wiped it. I add Seafoam every other tank for a dose of good luck to boot!

the saber is a 100:1 ratio but HPI should be a better choice for outboard use, especially on tcw3 class motors. I will tell you that the saber oil is fantastic for lawn equipment, in perticular, weed eaters and leaf blowers, there is no smoke.
Not an amsoil dealer here, but I am an amsoil employee lol.

Thinking of making the switch to Amsoil.
What do you guys use to decarb your motor?

I used Seafoam. There was a good article here a while back on doing a decarb.

Link to the decarb article below. I have always decarbed my motor every year or so. It will make a big difference on the old 2 strokes. I put a link to what I do below. It is pretty easy. Make sure to do this in the street, not your driveway.

I switched to Amsoil and have not been disapointed. It was a great move. I think it is safe to say you will be amazed what decarbing and synthetic oil will do.
