I picked up my tilapia sat from danbury fish farms and drove nearly 3 hours back to release them. The hatchery put the fish in huge very strong bags with oxygen and then put them each in very stout boxes. They say the fish are good for 6 hours, but when I got to my pond, the bags were just as tight as when I got them. I think they could have lasted longer than that. The hatchery did a fantastic job. I got there an hour early just to look around. They have it going on. Very nice and patient people working there. They only have "pick-ups" once a month so you can imagine the crowd that was there. It was busy, but they stayed calm and relaxed the whole time and were still answering questions from customers. Kids were wandering around checking out all the fish and crawfish having a good ole time. I highly recommend this place.
I released the tilapia around 2pm on sat. The small ones are white, so it was easy to see them move around the edge of the pond. We only had two floaters when I released them. By 7pm I could see that they had already spread through out the entire 3 acre pond. Everytime I hear or see a fish strike on the surface, I think there goes another .40 cents. before leaving for home on sunday I walked the perimeter of the pond and could see them swimming around having a good ole time. I will be going up this weekend and sure hope to see some survived.

So, fishindude 12, did you decide against the holding cage?

I agree with you that Lakes of Danbury is a great place. When my SIL was at Angelton HS, Danbury opened up one pond to the kids to fish for free for one day. They all had an absolute blast.

I've purchased many fish from them and never been disappointed and can't say that about other fish sellers. They used to deliver on large orders. I stocked a 4 acre pond from one of their deliveries and have had great results.

Next fall you should see a real show when your LMB take advantage of the low energy Tilapia before they die in cooler water...its a show I look forward to every year.

+1 for Lakes Of Danbury. I used to be a member and guided for them, too.

Great folks and a first-class operation.
