If you can catch them go ahead. It sounds easier than it is.

Check your insurance on your boats. I am only covered for $2500 for fishing equipment...for now. I am going to up that.

That is bad news. My brother-in-law's boat was one that was broken into. He took everything in except two rods and reels which they stole. They also broke one of his latches. One would think you could almost take everything in and leave all the box latches unlocked so when these %&#@ look for stuff to steal they dont break anything. What needs to be invented is a thin weight sensitive pad with an external siren that you back one of your trailer tires over. If there is any change in weight the siren will go off. Anybody else think thats a good idea? Or a detachable alarm that hooks to your batteries like jumper cables with some sort of mercury switch that can detect motion or something that will go off. Seems like a unit like that would be rather cost sensitve since it doesnt require install. More of a plug and play alarm. Then all you would have to do it hook it up to the battery at night and lock you battery box. Dont know, just a thought......

I have an alarm on the carport where I park my boat one on my truck and car. They don't make any noise outside goes off in the house. My shotgun and AK are always ready.

we could always get some old rods and reels together ourselves and set up our own sting. It would be very satisfying to get this trash ourselves for a bit before we turn them over to the police.

You can bet that as long as these posts advertise big tournaments the thieves are well aware of where they will be. Take your stuff out no matter how close you are to your boats. Even leave your rod boxes wide open.
Imagine if a group of thieves come through and sees all the rod boxes open. How disappointed they would be.
Everyone talks and talks about a sting and funny how noone ever stays up to watch for the thieves. Just quit making it easy for them and miserable for yourselves. TYSO!

Everyone should check with their insurance agent regarding their deductables. If the rods are stolen from the boat the boat may deductable apply. If the rods are removed from your boat and stolen from the room, garage, etc. the home owners may apply. Many of us carry much much higher deductables on our home owners. Mine is $2,000.00 so I would be out $2K if they are stolen from anywhere other than the boat. I have a $250 deductable on the boat so I would only be out $250. I am not saying either is right only recommending everyone know what is covered under what policy under what circumstance and know what deductables apply.
