I have a question to all you boat owners, I have a deposit on a boat that the owner says he has the title but has no title to the motor and says that a motor is a 1978 I believe, can't remember the year and it doesn't need a title. Is that true because I have an older motor from 1958 and just had it titled. He has all tags current I am sure TPWD would have brought it to his attention when he would go get the tags that the motor is not titled he says he has never owned a title to the motor,is it alright for me to go ahead and buy the boat, motor, trailer? and still be able to title it with TPWD?

call the tpwd and ask before you buy. it is a pain in the butt to get a title for something that has never been title. i believe the only way is if you have the orginal reciept from the orginal owner of the motor. then think to your self if the price of the boat is worth going and buying a new motor. call them and get the info from the horses mouth . it will save you a lot of money.

yep I know what you mean. I bought a boat from a man some years back who told me that he had no title to the boat but no problem in registering when I went to register it I had my booty chewed off for buying without title. this man said that the year for that motor didn't need a title. yet i had to title my 1958 Evinrude 18Hp motor, never did use it couldn't title my boat LOL. well I guess when I go back to Corpus christi I will ask him for both of us to go to TPWD office and see if the motor can be registered since he only has a title for the boat.

need to have one--but thousands, prob dont... ----> •All internal combustion (gasoline/diesel powered) outboard motors must be titled. Currently owned untitled outboard motors must be titled when transferred.
