Does anybody have a chart that converts lead wire diameters to hook size?

It is hard to figure out which spool of wire to buy when you don't have your hooks with you and ordering online.

Thanks!

I have never seen nor heard of such a chart, but I know a similar thing exists for hackle and bucktail so why not wire wrap? This is the most comprehensive collection of such devices I have seen... http://www.flytyingforum.com/index.php?showtopic=13610&hl=gauge
... but I do not use such things myself, I just eyeball it and call it good. Which is what I do for wire wrap as well, after I guess how deep I'll be fishing.

I only have two sizes of lead wire .015 and .030, I use them alone or in some combinations to to cover about anything I need to sink.

I normally use eight wraps of .035 lead wire on streamers and spinsters for action when using sink tip and sinking shooting heads.

.020 or .025 works for me on smaller wet flies with floating fly lines. Amount depends on size of hook and depth anticpated.

What size flies (on avg) are you weighting?
What type of fishing do you mostly do with those flies?

All my solder has flux core. Any problem using that? I know enough not to digest it, but not sure if the flux would give the fish a fatal case of the runs (swims?)

As long as you dont let them swallow the fly they should be fine, your not really supposed to eat lead either.

Just ask the Romans. For this reason I don't use lead wire, I use silver wire from a craft store. Call me paranoid, but it works just fine for me.
