This thread is not as exciting as the title might sound, but I tried these products from Fishage and love them.

Texas fly fishing is done mostly with streamers and poppers which require a lot of stripping line. These things protect your finger pretty well. Maybe I just have girly hands, but the last time I strip set a weedless popper on a fish 30 feet away it burned the hell out of me.

www.fishage.com has some cool photos worth checking out.

Well I think you are cool. Anybody who fly fishes, and ties flies is cool in my book. :-)

Not as cool as those guys with the stripping fingers though. I could see using those things in the salt water though where it aint so fun to get a cut then dip your hand in the salt.

Use surgical tubing or cut the fingers off an old golf glove. I don't use any protection and have yet to get burnt even by very large redfish that hit my fly going full speed the other way. Howsoevers I was strongly considering getting fighting gloves for off of the jetties, mostly because I am using braid for backing and if you've played with braid much you know how easily it can cut you.

I bought a set of stripping fingers at Oktoberfisch and have misplaced them. You are right when you "burn it in" for stripers that line gets some friction going. Sink line really has the friction factor.

After several days of tearing up my fingers and hands at the Red River a couple of years ago, I did some research and found three products I like. One is by Orvis (Sunguard Angling Gloves -- $18.95 pr), one by Waterworks Lamson (Stripper Glove, $9.99 ea), and one by Glacier Glove (Fighting/Stripping Gloves, $18.99 pr). They're basically full gloves with the fingertips cut off, but they're made with a combo of materials meant to be used in the water.

Unlike the stripping fingers (which I've also used), they're easier to keep on, harder to lose, and protect more of your hand. They also have the added side benefit of sun protection. And they work well at the coast, where the combo of sand, salt, and saltwater fly lines can really do a number on your fingers.

These were the gloves I was strongly considering getting... soon as that next paycheck gets here.

I use a Gamakatsu stripping glove in saltwater, and on Whitney with the sinking line and striped bass.

I picked this one because I do still fish with big spinning gear for carp. There are a couple places I fish that require a 100 yard cast, with a braid shock leader. Needless to say this stripping glove doubles as a finger protector there too.

Cabelas used to sell it also.

Fished this morning at the Red and wore my Glacier Gloves for the first time. They worked very well -- despite lots of sun, stripping and fish, my hands survived unscathed.
