Inept:
The Alamo Fly Fishers are a bunch of nice, low key guys who at the same time are active, gung ho fly fishers. They are great teachers who are more than willing to show you the ropes. They also produce a very informative monthly newsletter full of tips and stories of their fly fishing outings.
I encourage you to attend one of their meetings or outings and check them out.

Sounds like my kind of folks. Maybe we'll vacation in SA next year and go visit them.

I may have to check them out. Meetings conflict with scout night, but hey, there's plenty of other leaders.

Just a quick note to let folks know that I have the honor of representing Reel Recovery at Texoma on the Fly this year. I don't know exactly where I will be but I will have a table with RR info, a couple of the TFO RR Rods & Reels (they will be available as premiums for a donation to RR) and some information about this year's retreat in November.
See you on Saturday at Eisenhower Park. Come by the RR table and say hello!

is it worth driving 2 hours for? I have been to the fly fish texas in athens and it was fun. I have been looking at taking a casting lesson I could go for this and look at it as paying for a casting lesson.

My opinion is biased of course, but the past year's events have been good.
For casting lessons, we plan to have two FFF Master certified casting instructors and two more FFF certified casting instructors giving free casting lessons. At past events, we've often had other instructors show up and help. IMHO free access to two Master instructors is rare and worth the drive up.
It is on a smaller scale than Fly Fish Texas and we don't have as much space, so the formal casting lessons and the fly tying stop at noon so that we can setup for the seminars. But, there is casting in the front lawn and tying under the shade trees all day long.

ok so i need to be there well before noon is what you are telling me? Yes, that is exactly what I'm trying to say. We plan to start the casting classes at 9:15, 10:15, and 11:15 and will have both beginning classes and intermediate classes going at the same time. The classes will last about an hour. If you want to fish, you'll need to bring your own equipment. Otherwise, it is summer in Texas, so I'd suggest a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, bug spray, drinking water, and something to take notes. We'll have some hotdogs at lunch, but if you want something else, you'll need to bring it with you. Rex

It was hot last year and it should be no different this year. There's plenty of shade around and welcome relief indoors, but the casting will be out in the open, so come prepared.

WOW guys it was Great! First off thanks to all of the vols for the Great Time. Second thanks to Rex W for the casting lessons, I was in the first class, you were great and patient and I really appreciate it! Third Ken Bohannon thanks for showing me how to stack hair and the great discussion. Fourth Thanks to TFO for the rod I used for my casting lesson, I was thinking it over and for sure now I am buying one.

I'm glad you had a good time today. I'm always a little nervous when I know someone is traveling a long way hoping they'll find it worth their trouble. Thanks for coming up.
