Just wanted to know if there are any free casting clinics that are being conducted in the Dallas metroplex area any time soon. My brother in law wants to learn and I want to brush up on my casting skills as well.

As for me.... I am tired of being only able to cast up to 40 feet and want to learn how to haul etc. I can get decent loops at times but I want to get better at it.

Get it on up to Texoma tomorrow morning to Eisenhower Park. They will be hosing Texoma on the Fly along with Red River Fly Fishers. A grand opportunity!

I saw that. I wish I could go but I will be in the office this weekend working.

What is available locally in the Dallas area in terms of clubs, chapters etc? My dad was a member of one in Denton years ago. They would go on trips to Oklahoma and Arkansas and have instruction sessions on tying and casting monthly there in Denton.

Well, there are the Red River Fly Fishers who meet in Sherman at Gander Mountain store, the Dallas Fly Fishers in Addison (kinda like the Dallas Cowboys in Irving/Arlington) The Fort Worth Fly Fishers who actually meet in Fort Worth and then there are the weekly lessons at the Bass Pro stores. I am a bit behind on those schedules but they are there.

The Dallas Fly Fishers meets the first Monday of every month at the Addison Convention Center, near Addison airport, at 7pm. There is casting instruction on the lawn from about 6:00 until the meeting during summer months. Guests are always welcome.

See you there on the 6th.

Jackmack65,

Do you have to bring your own gear?

Nope. You certainly could, but there are typically 2 or 3 of the TFO "instructor" rods around.
