Several years ago on Ray Roberts, my wife and I were in my old canoe with a brand new trolling motor fishing along the bank. Game Warden in a power boat pulls up next to us and kills the motor, but just before my wife had casted her lure towards the bank and hung it in some rocks.
Game Warden in full uniform, long pants and shoes, jumps out of his boat in waist deep water wades to shore and pulled my wifes lure out of the rocks and holds onto it until my wife reels up the slack, then tosses it in the water to reel in and wades back to his boat. With a smile too.
Then he checked out licenses. Asks if it was a new trolling motor, informs us that the Canoe is supposed to have TX numbers if we have a trolling motor on it. I apologise. No ticket, no written warning, just have a nice day and off he goes. I did get my Canoe titled with TX numbers even though I don't think I have ever used a trolling motor on it again since.

I have never met a bad Game Warden either. About 2 years ago I met the Benbrook Game Warden at the ramp and we talked about everything. He had done an assignment where they "make" the hybrids -- we talked a lot about how they do that ...Great guy!!! Lewisville, Grapevine and Texoma Game Wardens have been great too.

Most Game Wardens I've come across over the years have been really friendly, and never had any problems.
I'm sure that when people say they didn't ask for my license is because he is used to reading people.
He see's that you are laid back and calm, and you look like you know what you are doing he will generally just go on, and just visually look everything over while B S ing.
We ran into one on the Nueces one day, and he just pulled up and started talking about fishing and then asked how we did, but never asked to see or count the fish.
We talked a long time, and we offered him some venison sausage and he took it and began eating, and made the comment that it was good, but he did ask us if it was legal deer meat in a joking way of course.
Just one more cast!

Yeah these R good stories BUT remember this is how it is supposed to be. these stories should not be the exception like you all R stating, but the norm. So look at the big picture and what is your general take on this subject? MINE, We pay the taxes that pay there salary and we all have Jobs to do. There are some better people than some of them now ... kind of hokie to me. but in general most R respectable, that's all I ask.

a lot of GW's go about things the wrong way and are to lazy to help with anything or just go in gun-ho (young ones) writting tickets for things they make up. I had a friend of a local GW tell me that he would write a ticket to his own mother if there was any possible way he could make something up. And he made up that my boat lights were not on (boat was shoared since well before dark he just pulled up and started writing tickets), and that I had no life jackets which i got thrown out thanks to a handy dandy camera (have a pic of my buddy holding the lifejackets and the GW in the background).
a lot that do their job and do it well
2 that i've met that seem to understand their purpose out their and do everything they can to keep the law and people on their side while not letting things just slide.
(fishing only; only had 1 i could say was a $^@^&^ while hunting)

Joe Carter was another goodun'. He was over Van Zandt Co. Always enjoyed getting checked by him. Always administered the law with some common sense. Good guy.

I have never met a rude GW either. I think most will treat you the way they are treated. I have been checked by several over the years on the lakes with no problems. I got checked by one last year when deer hunting. He was extremly nice. He did check the tags and harvest logs. My friend and I had both filled out our harvest logs incorrectly. We had the wrong ranch name. It was a simple mistake he could have written a ticket for but he let us slide. He took time to make sure we understood all of the rules etc. Making sure we stay out of trouble going forward. He rolled up on us when we were cooking breakfast. He stayed for a few minutes and had a breakfast borrito with us. He was a very nice guy.

I love the wardens in my area. They are all old Ags and when they see my ring they let their guard down.

Gary on T-Wok is cool. We had plenty of good conversations at the ramp last year in duck season. Real cool and very professional. My son and his buddies really liked him a lot.

My ex nieghbor was a game warden. He was nice enough but he had the total red you know what at the department because he said he was assigned to the local sherrifs office for meth/drug raids more than anything else. I think he said even tho the county bordered rayburn he had done more drug raids than checking hunters/fisherman in 2 years. He went out and had to pay for his own bullet proof vest. His wife was trying to talk him into quiting even tho he was senior man in the county.
