Been fishing Conroe for the last 3 years and never had a problem getting my two young kids to catch brim. One of our favorite places has been around Stow-A-Way's rip rap. This year the grass is gone and we can't catch more than one or two at a time. I have read other post where people say they are catching them around boat docks, but we haven't had any luck there either.
Typically we fish with cut night crawlers under a cork, Stike King bitsy crankbaits, and rooster tails. We went last Saturday and Sunday and only caught two. My kids are loosing interest in fishing and I don't want that to happen. We catch and release only, so don't worry about us taking your dinner. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Matthew

Finding the grass would be helpful here; unfortunately you are at odds with homeowners who don't like too much grass around their docks and bulkheads. You didn't say, but are you fishing from the bank or from a boat? The other thing you might try is to go deeper, either by using slip corks or weights on the bottom. Also, you might try catfish; they won't mind the missing grass! Good luck!

Fishing from a boat fiSherwood. I Guess we will have to start using slip bobbers and fishing closer to the bottom in deeper water. I tried fishing on the bottom without a cork and the few kids caught were hooked deep. What do you think a good depth range will be during the late summer evenings?
Thanks for the reply,
Matthew

My cousin has been doing real good north of 1097 bridge at the first jungle area where all of the stick ups and grass lines are in 2-6' using crickets or just dig up worms from the yard and use an adjustible cork.He also has picked up nice crappie and catfish on this method in the last 2 weeks. If that helps,Good luck!

There are a million of them up by the dam. Try a slip cork and fish 8-15 feet of water, just above the rocks.

Sixwarden,
I fished conroe a few weeks back for cats and kept hooking up with these little guys. I didn't know what they were or limits on them so i just threw them all back. I found most of them in about 12-15 feet of water using a hook roughly 1 foot from the weight, with the weight on bottom.
All bodies of water ARE connected.

Thanks for all of the replies. I am going to go get some slip bobbers for the kids poles so they can start working their worms a little deeper. I sure wish we had grass, my son loves throwing Strike King bitsy crankbaits for the big brim. If you've never done that and you have kids its great fun. I put some polarized glasses on him and in the clear water around the hydrilla he can watch the bluegill attack his bait. Its funny when he starts telling me how I should be working the bait, "Ok Dad, reel it slow, then let it pause, then jerk it once and they will hit." Nothing like fighting a big brim on a 4 foot ultralight with 2lb test.
Thanks for the help.
