Can anyone give me the coordinates for this? I read last year that people had luck fishing at it, but don't know about this year. All i've heard/read is to try the west side of the island 50-150 yards off to the drop off point.....any other suggestions? the clock has officially dropped to under a week and I want to be as prepared as possible!!

You don't need coordinates.
Looking at the dam from the water. Start on the right side (south side) of the dam, about 50 yards off shore and start heading north along the dam. You'll run over it. And if you're not careful, probably run over the other 15 boats that are on top of it.

Not near the island. Look towards the south end of the dam. You will most likely see boats. You can also see the pipes coming down the dam into the water from the pump. Be careful you anchor in the area of the pipes. Make sure that you anchor well upwind and drift back.

Yeah, no coordinates are needed. If there are no boats out there, look for the pipe running down the dam on the south side. The bubbles are pretty obvious. This time of year there are almost always boats on them.

There is huge schools of shad in the bubbles and often Sandy's lurk around the edge trying to eat breakfast.

+1

I don't actually fish around the bubbles much. I just go there to catch shad. Sandies are the main fish caught. I have seen a few cats caught there are well. I am not a big fan of fishing the bubbles. Plenty of fish to be caught elsewhere on Grapevine that are a lot less crowded.

Usually boaters all on top of each other. And tons of shad.

what time are the sandies usually running? Do we need to get there before sunrise? also do you drift, or actually troll?

the bubbles seem to be better later in the summer. July and August. When the water is warmest and the oxygen levels are at their lowest, the bubbles seem to lure in more fish.

In the truly dog days of summer lots of fish can be caught between this point and the island. The bubbles can produce fish all day, but I always had my best luck right before sunset. Try Berkley Gulp on a 1/4 oz jig head in charteruse/white or a small white grub on the same. You can also catch a lot of small spotted bass.

I am with Paul. When I was a regular on Grapevine I normally just went there for shad. Sometimes I would hang out for a little just to see what was going on. I have caught a lot of nasty looking skinny one eyes out of there.
