Wow, I can't believe you actually got the NPS to go along with that? Just amazing! Congrats, sounds like a good idea. Hope nobody does anything stupid to mess it up.

BAST Bass anglers of south texas used to hold weigh in on the water here. They set up on the bank by the launch. I think people got bummed because anglers used the main ramp dock. 100 to 150 boat tourneys. The weigh ins went real good though. Are you going to try and sell this idea to FLW BASS and Bass champs? Need some kind of ampitheatre on the bank I would think. I applaud this and kudos to the park service for helping out.

We hold on the water-marina-tournaments on Elephant Butte all the time with no problems.Boats line up and non boater bags fish. The fish are weighed re bagged and returned to the angler to be released away from the marina. Some anglers even return the fish to where they were caught. The weigh master can't spend a bunch of time talking and rough water can make it interesting;but it is fish friendly.

Before we "sell" anything, all the approval process has to go on first. But yes, it might be an idea. The ampitheater would be way down the line due to environmental studies etc...... But we could have it that if they don't have the means to handle the fish appropriately , yes that may be an option. The main attraction would be to get the ramps and the parking lots unclogged and better fish care. There has been a slight change of plans for our two tournaments remaining. Due to a sidewalk problem and a security issue, we will be basically reversing where we set everything up on the dock. Your partner will still bag your fish etc..... It will just be now when we are through weighing your fish at the END of the dock, you will get back into your boat and proceed around the corner to the ramp. Will take a bit longer, but I don't think it will delay matters much. Will just save you a little walk up the hill so to speak. Apparently there was a little miscommunication and we weren't aware of the issues. But no biggie ! We will do as we are told to do and this will at least show everything we need to know except for the walk through on the dock. Which , when you really look at it, you are only taking a couple more minutes to accomplish what we are doing.

It will be a good test run for what we want to accomplish, which is the possible building of an on the water facility for weigh-in's !

Probably not the right thread to mention this but I was thinking: The park visitation has risen a gozillion percent in the last 10 years. The number of fishermen and tournaments has risen 2 gozillion percent in the last 10 years. obama is giving away tons of free money to get the economy going, Roads, infrastructure, bridges. why not a boat ramp? " Diablo West". Dont quote me on those numbers they are not scientific.

The Park Service and the Amistad Recreational Area have $2 million in Obama Economic Stimulous money to spend. We are trying to help them do that in the best manner possible to help anglers through improve access and tournament fish care.

Wow, I didn't know that. I wonder what it would cost to build a " Diablo West" and set it up for tournaments with a release dock? There is a few hundred acres west of the bridge that was originally slated for a ramp when the lake was built. I heard funding issues canceled the project back then.

Ok. The ball is in motion. Just want to let ya'll know, this of'course is not going to happen overnight for one thing. Probably going to be a two or three year project IF not longer if everything comes through, money etc... We also need folks who want to help with this project to please come in contact with myself or Tim Cook to become members of STASA. We are moving forward on our end . We are going to have to take our responsibilty for this project as well, money wise. The Park Service isn't going to just lay out money. They have their own funding issues to deal with, so we must come up with our part to be able to accomplish our goal. Which means some work , networking, talking to clubs and other organizations etc.... Set up a fund for the money to be used only for the project etc... If we don't step up, then this will be nothing more than typing and nothing will happen, fish care will continue to suffer and the quagmire from big events goes on. And in the end, I believe we will have something for everyone to be proud of and can be a model for the rest of the country. But naturally, the South Texas Anglers Sportsmans Association needs your help. I challenge each and every one of you that believes in and cares about fish care and the resource in general to step up. I have and will be eternally grateful if you do as well. Regards.

We are going to set-up a fund through the organization. Right now, the best thing we can do is become members and put our heads together to find resources for funding. More brains are better than one and everyone knows somebody who knows somebody if you know what I mean. But once we get the fund established at a bank, then donations are more than welcome at any time. Which is something I have on my agenda to do very shortly. Tim and I are persuing all the one's that we are aware of at this point.
