Hey guys,
A quick question, we got a 27lb Flathead last week that was just full of eggs (of course we didn't know that until we saw them, which was too late to let her go) when is their spawn, I would have thought that it was already passed? I know we have been catching them fairly steadily (as steadily as you catch flatheads) since about April.
Thanks for any help, it's always appreciated!

most of the spawning cats i've seen are usually caught in mid-late summer.

just like albert said. The first week of july seems to be the tail end of the spawn usually. I have caught them with eggs in mid july too, but never in the last week of july or august.

No. On a dam, it is usually to dry for the flatheads to survive. lol The males will usually find a hollow log, or some holes in the rocks, then the females will come in a lay the eggs. It seems they like rocky areas. So if you have rocks up by the dam, going into the water, a good place to start looking. Good luck and let us know how you do.

yellercats in a lake love flat rocks ... or a ledge ... concrete slabs such as boat ramps are a favorite for yellers in a lake ... they will spawn in water that is barely deep enuff to cover them

Used to fish Clear Creek a lot, they would come up the creek to spawn, and the water would drop, and they couldn't get back to the lake, we would take the big eating kind of shrimp and catch them on rod n reel, if you threw out there and you start getting little nibbles, move, but if you don't get a bite, set there, because they have already eaten all the little fish. The sad thing is that a lot of times the creek didn't come back up in time and there was a lot of big flat-heads starved to death, or run out of water and died. But back to your question, I have caught these fish with eggs in them the last of July!!!
