Taxidermyman, I love snakes but kill cottonmouths in my backyard..4 yr old and all. I catch tons of watersnakes all the time and would catch a cottonmouth if you are serious about mounting it. I just tried to relate here 'cause I usually represent the "snakehugger" side and am sick of catching s*** for it. So..mesquite is not too far from me...where should I bring that cottonmouth for you to mount??? Honest and for true!!!

Taxidermy man is my kind of man, "Never kill anything you don't intend to eat, or isn't out to kill you first" Wise words from my father.

I am with ya taxidermyman. Although, some selective harvesting of snakes should be approved And popping one that crawls in the boat with you is fine by me. I actually feel left out....I never have any close encounters with cool reptiles.

I am all for selective harvesting. Reptiles have there place in life as well as in the USA ECONOMY! I believe as many should be taken from the wild populations as can handle it. I am all for it. The indescriminate killing of ANY WILDLIFE can only be condoned BY IDIOTS. And yes, I have a few cool reptiles.
Nautilus-- I will mount you one but I would also would like to have one ALIVE AND UNHARMED! It would go good with my collection. Let me know.

I have a 6ft diamond back water snake with 13 rattles but the head has been blown off by a 12ga shotgun. Would this do or should I be more gentle with the head next time if I want him mounted? If a person should want a snake mounted how would they go about preparing it? Not everyone would bring in a live snake to have it mounted. Z71 John N.

I am 6'2" and have a rattlesnake skin that is almost as tall as me stretched on a board. Not really too sure exactly he was before a put a 12 ga next to his head and squeezed the trigger! I do know we split his skin down his neck and messed up his pattern about 4 inches while trying to skin him. Had 9 rattles on him at the time but they have fallen off over the years. Thats what happens to a snake that tries to crawl through a campsite of drunk fraternity guys! Oh yeah the snake had a squirrel inside him like he just ate it less than a before the snake mets its maker!
