What tactics are you guys using? How do yall rig your bait? Fishing shallow or deep? I have just never fished for reds in my life. Tried to get my 24' center console in that lake last year but the water was too low. I went out there yesterday but didnt do much fishing, just scoped it out more than anything. Not asking for a honey hole, I just dont know how to fish for reds in particular. Please just dont tell me to hire a guide.

I have been talking up a big storm about going to fairfield. Just have not been able to do it.
I might be able to give it a go this Thursday.
I only have a small boat.
Is the water rough?
For ex., say you have a day with constant wind in the 5-10 mph range, with light traffic, how choppy will the water be?

You would be fine--fairfield doesnt get bad until winds are 20+ mph--very small lake

As long as you're driving that 24-foot CC around, scoping it out ya just as well troll a DD-22 off both side of the boat - never know, ya just might stumble into one of those redfish. At the very least, don't be afraid to try something, geeeeezzzz. bang bang

If I do go, that's what I plan to try.

Oh, I tried some stuff, dont get me wrong. I just didnt have alot of time to spend there. We were only there from about 4:00 to 7:00 in the evening. I carolina rigged some shad and perch, fished on the bottom where i could mark fish on the graph in anywhere from 8-20'. I also tried throwing a tiki stick and bass assassins along the reeds. Maybe I was just fishing at the wrong time, who knows. We were mainly there to check out the state park to camp out on the 4th possibly.

bernie,
Try fishing drop offs and humps shad, perch, shrimp ect. They will eat anything. We carolina rig our baits on the botton and fish 6-20 ft. But they get even shallower than this. Be there early as they start biting before the sun even thinks about comming up.
