the girlfriend and i are taking off for san antonio for the 4th of july weekend....was wondering if there were any good places i should try to hit up while i am down there....or any places that i should try that are along the drive from mckinney to there....nothing too far out though...just an idea.

this is not going to be a fishing trip, but if i can get an hour in here...an hour in there...it might be fun smile

thanks again everyone for all the help!

There are lots of places to stop on the way down, it just depends on your time frame and her patentience.

It's more than the catfish would do.

If I go thru West, tx, I always rack my head and study the sky over the Brazos's Dicks Canoe Rental !

Unless you are wearing a grass skirt and sleeping in a ditch and eating only road kill, you too are part of 'the problem'.

That's the biggest outing weekend of the year, so the Guadalupe will be mobbed (from Hunt to south of New Braunfels), as will many of the other Hill Country rivers. If you're thinking of fishing without hooking an inner tube on your backcast, you'll need to fish at first light somewhere a bit off the beaten track.

Check with Colleen and her crew at Heart of Texas Kayaks in Temple (http://www.hotkayaks.net/) for ideas on such places on your way south.

I'm new to this, so I would't trust me, but there is fishing out by the zoo. You might be able to get close to the water. I hear Leon Creek on the westside has some fish, but it is also a vagrent hangout. I've been having some luck outside the city on Cibelo Creek in La Vernia

FISH ON!!! ummmmm off

thanks guys for the feedback.....yeah...i forgot how crazy it's going to be....and hot!!!
the only time i would have a chance is in the morning or afternoon...i might not have anytime...maybe if i am driving and see any places i will pull over & check it out!
i bet it's going to be over 100 when we are down there....that is hot....especially when you are on the river walk...hot and humid!

one thing we are going to do is stop at a couple of the restaurants that have been on the diners, drive ins and dives tv show...there are 3 in san antonio!

There are a couple of Guy Ferritti spots here in Austin too, the ol'lady and I really dig that show also.

If you're taking I35, then I would suggest stopping in Georgetown and throwing some flies in the San Gabriel and you can always stop in Round Rock to fish Brushy Creek.
There are plenty of opportunities.
