I installed one on a Ranger fish and ski. It's not difficult, but you need two people. After I installed mine, I put a thin bead of waterproof silicone around all the edge. Its been on for two years without any problems.

Skraps,
I can help answer any questions you may have on KeelShield. They can be installed by one person, but as suggested, a second pair of hands make it much smoother.

Let me know if I can help you...........

I've installed two keel shields. It's not hard. The key is doing the prep work - just follow the instructions to the letter, take your time and you won't have any problems. I wouldn't try it by myself - you definitely need another person, not becuase it's hard, just because it's akward laying on your back working under the boat. Another tip that will really help you - lay the keel shield on the dash of your car or pickup for a couple of hours before you install it on a warm day. This makes it a lot more flexible and easier to work with. Kind of like a cold water hose vs. a warm one.

There are two types of Hamby's, a heavy duty and a light duty.

The heavy duty is not sold as a do it yourself keel guard, the light duty is.

Just my opinion...there is nite and day difference between the heavy duty and all the others. Not that they don't do what they are advertised, the difference is how careful you have to be when you touch the ramp/bank. I would let the neighbor's 10yr old beach my boat on a ramp with a Hamby's heavy duty but there is no way I would let any rookie do it with any other brand.

Good luck and go with what you like the best after all you are paying for it.

I installed mine by myself. It only took about 1 1/2 hours. I took my time to make sure I did EXACTLY as the insrtuctions said. Been about 7months and no probs. I love mine.

Great timing on your post. I will be installing one on my Ranger in the next couple of weeks. I will be going with the Keelshield.
