Was looking around on the TPWD website and looked at Lake Lavon. I seen that they had striped bass. Never knew that. Is it just me not noticing talk about Lavon? Seems like I never seen anyone post about catching the stripers on that lake.

I see that it's pretty close to Hubbard. So I guess that has something to do with it. But there is alot of fishing to be had on the East side of the DFW metroplex and was wondering why I don't see much on Lavon.

Any thoughts, guesses, commments?

Just wondering.... who_knows

Did a search. Found some info but nothing current.

Lots of stocking that goes into that lake. Seems like we would hear of more stripers being caught...

I fish the lake regularly but seldom catch a striper. I caught one striper last year that was 17 inches long. I have caught one this year that was about 12 inches long. I talk to other fishermen at the boat ramps and some of them occassionally catch a striper, at times a keeper. Texas Parks and Wildlife has been stocking stripers in Lavon for the last six years but they dont seem to be surviving. Otherwise, I think more would be caught. A lot of them may be dying before reaching mature size and a lot must be eaten by other fish when put in the lake. I dont think the lake is deep enough for the stripers to survive the hot water in the summer. Stripers like deep water where it is cooler in my opinion. I wish Parks and Wildlife would stop stocking stripers and stock hybrids. I think they would have a much better chance of surviving. Just my opinion. Maybe other fishermen will jump in and shed some more light on this subject.

Holzer,
I live real close to Lavon & fish it quite frequently because it is so close. That is the only reason. Most of the other lakes in the metroplex offer better fishing. We do catch stripers in there but most aren't very good size. I caught a 5# last year while hauling in sandbass & it was a pleasant surprise but have only caught about 3-4 keepers over the last 2 years. It may be because it is not deep enough, I don't know. I do know the sandbass fishing is great July - Sept. when they are schooling real good. Go w/ the slab-fly combo & catch 2 at a time. It's a blast. A lot of small fish but much better size last summer than previous years. Hopefully it will be even better this summer. I'm still waiting for them to turn on. There is some huge cats in there as well & up until a couple years ago great crappie fishing. I don't know what has happened w/ that though.

I will say its is crazy! There should be alot of good fish in the lake but the best fish I seen caught were at the Dam in the river 17 to 21 lb. Yes were talking striper and I know there not striper so to speek in Ray Hub but they are at the dam.
In the Lake you need to fish the power plant out put. Thats on the North side of the point not the cove on the south side.So find out then it's running. Pull your boat up to the cables and make long casts. They like that running water. Thats where I've had the bast luck.

Whenever I fish at Lake Lavon, I fish at the dam. I never had any success at other parts of lake lavon. Caught lots of bass at the dam, but recently i have not had any luck...
Catch good size catfish once in awhile, but havent caught bass at the dam for awhile.

But, last year, I saw one dude caught about 20 to 25 bass within 30 minutes with a spinner bait! The thing is that most of the bass were no longer than 9 to 10 inches, but he took them all... I was pretty sure that was illegal...

Some good points, opinions & theories made. Nothing else that I can add since I've only been on that lake once. And that was a long long time ago.

Although I don't know much about the lake, I'd have to say that I agree with bassangler and think that Lavon would benefit from hybrid stockings rather than striper.
