I have a 2007 gmc with 40K miles. I always tow with overdrive off, had my 40K tranny service about 6 weeks ago by the dealership. truck was running great and is immaculate motor and all.

Left me stranded Saturday pulling my boat. Dealership says it was burnt clutches improperly installed when the truck was made. 100% covered but
stranded with a boat is not fun. will be my last gm product.

It happens. That's why they have warranties.

I honestly doubt that it was an error during the initial build. If so, the trans would have failed by now.

i dont know anout that i have a 08 gmc and iv had 2 trannys and now a rear diff at 34k miles, one tranny wouldnt quit blowing the front seal out and the other tranny had a crack around the front pump houseing, the diff was leaking from the front seal and now its blown a front bearing and possibly tore the gears up, warrinty has covered it all but iv gotton to the point where i cant trust this truck and i went and bought a new ford a few months ago. it gets 25mpgs and runs better too. sorry to say gm isnt what they used to be.

As stated above, that is why vehicles have warrinties!! I know it sucks that it left you stranded, but it happens, all the time, with every make and model of vehicle, truck, farm equipment, etc.

I am a heavy truck tech. Just this week I have worked on a new truck, that has less than 200 miles on it. First it had an engine miss, then it had a charging problem, then yesterday I had to put a steering gear box on it, all of these failures within a week.

Just because your tranny failed prematurley dosen't mean GM sells an inferior product. If there wasn't failurs, then we wouldn't need mechanics. Humans build these vehicles and people screw up from time to time, heck I messed up for the fist time two weeks ago!!!

just got off the phone and gm has verified it happened at the time the truck was built, they didnt set the clutch plates right.

I've owned dodge and nissan and never had an issue with either.

Well my prior dodge went thru 2 transmisions and threw a rod with 46,000 on it. My current chevy with 115,000 has only had one lightbulb in the tail light replaced. My last GMC had 335,000 on it when monty coon took it in and it had no major failures.

As a former Nissan & Infiniti master tech, I've replaced many transmissions. I can even remember a Maxima that would not even pull itself off the car hauler.

it sucks when you have a 30k$ truck and its in the shop more than you drive it for the same problems.

110% back this statement. that trans would have crated within the first 10K miles if the clutches were installed incorrectly. whoever did the service on it last, f**ked up! one more reason why they should NEVER let loober goobers service transmissions!!!!! i stressed this MANY MANY times while I was a transmission tech. one of the many reasons I couldnt get along with dealership politics....

remember- service writers are salesman, and will fill you full of BS to cover up errors. But at least they are taking care of it.
