Just like driving a car. First weekend I had my boat, I came into the spot I wanted to fish, took my foot of the gas and tried to hit the brakes. Forgot I was driving a boat for a minute.

I had one on an older boat that I didn't like at all.

It was hard on my foot if I was driving barefooted. Also, it was older and had gotten sticky. As in, the spring wouldn't back the peddle off throttle, so I had to pull it back with the top of my foot. Hurts without shoes on. It always seemed to stick when I was trailering and there were times I'd run up into the trailer faster than I'd like.

Again...might have just been the one I had, but I prefer the old way of driving.

Just had one taken out of my Z22, to hard on the knees and a Pain when you have to run a long distance. Don't know about it when one of the guys says just like driving a car, never had a cars foot feed that hard to push down and hold there.

The only downside for me was when I first started loading and unloading by myself. The boat would slide off the trailer just had to get use to not putting the trailer in the water as far. After making this adjustment would not go any other way. Hands never leave the steering wheel with blinker switch on steering wheel for trim.

The only thing I dislike about it is the amount of pressure you have to apply. That said, I'm also glad you do have to apply that much pressure, so that it returns should you for any reason get your foot thrown off the hot foot.

It sure makes sliding sideways around a corner in less than 2 ft of water while working the trim a heck of alot easier! smile

And if you get ejected and are not wearing your kill switch it might just save your life.

I will always have a boat with out one......When you are 6 foot 6 it is impossible to use a hotfoot I promise....And in a Skeeter is the worst, I tried running my buddy's once, and I am not kidding, it was impossible!

I think that all boats with 150 hp and greater should be mandatory to have one installed. It adds a huge safety factor.

I saw one boater at Lavon that had been thrown overboard without his kill switch attached. His boat ran over him repeatedly at about 3/4 throttle. The water churned blood red like the movie Jaws. It was a horrendous sight.

If he had a Hotfoot in place it would have taken the motor down to an idle when he went out of the boat.

My 2 cents worth.

Ken

I would not own a boat without one!!!

The major issue that they can cause is a lower unit/gear malfuntion by over reving and shifting into gear. Some motor companys have used that as an excuse on malfuntion for voiding warranty.

I am 6'5" and have to move the foot peedle back a little. This makes it hard for the little lady to drive ,but she has got use to it. I would never own a bass boat of any size with out one.
It is a lot easier to drive in rough water.

Brandon,
Did that boat have a tilt wheel? I had one on my 18 1/2 ft Nitro and I am 6'4" tall and did not have a problem with it. I just had to tilt the wheel up so I could get my long legs under there.

this is the first boat i've ever had one in. at first i didn't like it, but it took about 10 minutes to like it better than a throttle.
