How much hydrilla is on Bob Sandlin? I just received a treatment proposal for about 8 acres, and am not familiar with the lake. Anyone have any insight? Are you sure it was a permit for spraying Hydrilla.. there is a lot of Gator Grass in Bob Sandlin now.

Just thought of something. Last fall I saw a TPW boat in the back of River Boat dumping something in the water. I had just forgotten about it until now. Is there a weed treatment that is just chunks or blocks of stuff? I assumed that's what they were doing.

TP&W has not done "Any" vegetation treatment on Sandlin far as I know and our District certainly has not performed any treatments. If you see a repeat of "what ever it was" please call me. I've fished Sandlin for years and I sure hope they don't try and kill or prevent the hydrilla. However, folks that don't care about fishing and especially bass fishing will for sure try to keep it out. I will certainly call if I see anything going on that looks strange.

Hopefully not another "Conroe Model" Hydrilla treatment coming for Bob Sandlin. If so you can count the Hydrilla gone, zero, zip, nada.

Found plenty of Coon Tail on the east end.. hydrilla is growing in 10ft of water on the west end.. However the fish seem to still be in a post spawn pattern.. Have not schooled up yet for the summer.

This proposal came from a private applicator and will be treating an area in front of a private residence. Everything is on the up and up legally. I was just wondering if hydrilla was plentiful out there. I don't know of any large scale vegetation control effort being talked about there. Allowing homeowners to take care of localized problems in front of their property can often keep homeowners from organizing and will avoid efforts to control the whole lake.

I am just asking but what if the homeowners use more treatment than they are supposed to? How do you regulate how much they use and where they use it?
I just don't know how this works is why I am asking.

Hi Steve.
I have the Same concerns that you question with a "homeowner" doing the treatment. I can tell you that if a person that is "not" a licenses applicator submits a treatment plan, they have to identify the area, the controling agent to be used, and they "MUST" recieve approval before beginning in contrast if a Licensed applicator applies, if they do not get a negative response withing a number of days, then the process is approved.
The stuff that they can use is very expensive and a small amount of research will tell them that "more" is not better. In most cases they try to get the best bang for their buck.
I would prefer to have only licensed applicators do the work but that could lead to things like Tim Pointed out.
I too, love to glide accross the clear bluegreen water over the hydrilla. As long as I am with the District, I will always look out for the good water quality that we have now.

I am just asking as well on this. How does a home owner get the right to spray anything in the water whether it is infront of their boat dock or not? Do they own part of the lake? Once again, I am not being sarcastic just asking. I would expect many more on here would like to know how this works.

On LBS, ownership by residents ends at the waters edge. While there is no requirement that they treat "only" in front of thier properties, the District would probably be opposed to permit approval. LBS is under the "Texas State Aquatic Vegetation Mangagement Plan" so we do not actually approve or deny a permit, however we were told if we speak out against a particular permit, that TP&W would not let the treatment proceed.
If you google "Texas State Aquatic Vegetation Management Plan" the first link that comes up is a PDF file that is the guidance document that covers how this is done.
I think the regs are too liberal on this but thats just me.
Hope this helps.
