First let me say I took my boat trailer in for service. The brakes were making a grinding sound as I applied brake pressure and surge brakes kicked in. The grinding was going on just as I approached stopping and it wasn't going on any other time. I'm not a mechanic of any kind and it had been awhile since I had service so in I go to a local boat dealer for my make of boat. Four weeks later I get a call it's ready. The long time was attributed to the loss of an employee due to accident. Things happen so I understand. I'm told I had some bad bearings which were replaced. I'm also told the brakes are fine they just make that sound because the calipers never completely open up but it's all ok. They tell me they cleaned them up and it should be fine.

Well it seems a little strange to me but I say ok and hook up. On the way home I find the brakes are still making the grinding sound as I come to a stop. I just can't believe this is ok. If the brakes on a trailer these folks just sold made that sound I'd suspect they would have one irate customer and the trailer would be back on their lot in a hurry. Am I wrong on this? As I said I'm not a mechanic but the brakes never made this sound before.

Any advice would be appreciated

I am assuming that they are disc brakes. I would crawl underneath and look around on the rotors. Look for ripples, warping, and see how much is "shiney" from getting rubbed by the brakepads.

How old is the trailer? How often do you use it? What shop did you take it to? If you would rather PM me the last answer to keep from spreading someones name on here I would understand.
