I live in Fort Worth and would like to stay within 45 mins to an hour from my house.

Me and a buddy have tried Lake Lewisville Barge a number of times using corn and doughbait and have come up blank. I am more of a catfish and bass kinda guy but, I heard the fight a carp gives is GREAT and i would love to find out for myself.

Any advice would be wonderful!

Thanks

Any of the big area lakes will have carp, as will the Trinity and some smaller lakes and ponds.

Where in Fort Worth do you live?

From FOrt worth, hit up Lake Worth, it has plenty of 10 lb carp, or Marice Creek Lake has a lot of small carp.

OR...

I'm sure you drive by some of those community ponds every once in a while, check them out, you may be surprised (please please please, post your results).

Also as stated above, by TT, don't overlook the river that city was built on, it has an abundance of fish of many species in it, including carp and buffalo.

Thanks for the responses...I live in White Settlement. And by Marice creek do you mean Marine Creek?

And i've fished a little pond by my house at a place called veterans park (its a softball complex) and have caught a few really nice sized catfish...not too sure if any carp are in that pond or not...

I've fished at Vet Park before but didn't catch anything. Nice to know there are some catfish.

Benbrook and Lake Worth have carp up to 15 (maybe 20) pounds, but I don't think anyone on this forum has caught anything bigger. You could try Eagle Mountain if it has bank space, or Lake Weatherford. I've caught carp up to about 15 pounds from the Trinity near where it is crossed by Bryant-Irvin, University, and I-30.

I'm thinking of going to Benbrook Marina now that the water level has gone up...do you think the marina is a good place for carp?

I've not fished there, but I know that people have caught carp from shore at the Marina. There are broad, shallow flats along North Holiday Park, so there should be carp cruising there in the summer. Make sure you chum with something to give them an excuse to stay in your area and find your bait.

There is a depth contour map on page 32 of this document:

How often do you go out to Trinity River?

I don't get out to the Trinity much any more. I went through a phase a couple years ago when that was the only place I fished, but now I'm trying to branch out a little.

Check out LLELA sometime. Last time I was there, there were TONS of buffalo. I was constantly snagging something big and only getting a scale for my efforts with a roadrunner.

And Smile, let me know the next time you go out to Benbrook. Maybe we can meet up?

Sure. I've mainly fished at Rocky Creek, but I wouldn't mind fishing up by Benbrook Marina.

Some of the guys here have done well at Mustang Park, but I'm not sure about access for non-campers in the summer time.

Yeah, there were a lot of swimmers at Longhorn Park this weekend, too; a bunch of 'em were swimming right next to the "No Swimming" sign. It's too bad they don't reserve some places for swimming and also ban swimming outside those areas.
