I'm building one this week for my SWB Chevy. I'll post pics when done.

When I had a truck I really didn't like anything hanging out the end. I have built a couple of simple racks that sit in the bed and allow the kayak or canoe to go over the cab where it's up and out of the way, and leaving the bed open for gear. 2x4's, PVC pipe or steel I've seen it done many different ways.. here's a simple one http://www.flyanglersonline.com/features/panfish/part453.phpand another http://image07.webshots.com/7/0/38/50/110803850pvvPKz_fs.jpg
