I have read on the forum several times about people using fresh buffalo as catfish bait. Fiesta sells buffalo and I am thinking of buying a couple, cutting them up, and trying them. I have a couple questions though. First, do you slab them and bait your hook with a slab or do you cut them cross-way where they still have bones in them? Since the store bought ones will already be gutted, I know they will not have has much blood in them as those you catch. Have any of you guys had any luck with buffalo?

It does work. Be sure to leave the skin on and scales off. The skin will help it STAY on the hook.

I wouldn't waste money on the store-bought ones. Catch your own fresh.

Zeek, actually I have tried. I have used corn and a dough bait with not luck. I know lake Conroe has carp and buffalo in it, but I have no real idea how to go about fishing for them.

opus, should I use whole kernel corn in shallow water or do you need to spot them first? I know nothing about fishing for buffalo.

I usually catch plenty of buffalo on redworms or small pieces of nightcrawler fished on the bottom.

Man, now the only problem is getting the carp and buffalo. I will buy a couple and filet them with the skin on one side and then cut them bait size. At the lake, I will throw out some range cubes and corn(whole kernel) and see if I can catch some. I suppose I should use small hooks, right?

I've had good luck with buffalo in the past. We occasionally net one when were lookin for shad. I still think fresh cut shad is best.
