A little off topic, but anyone know what happened Saturday night that left a badly damaged boat floating vertical off the point near Don's Port? I called 911 when I came upon the boat Sunday morning and was told it happened the night before and everyone was accounted for. Around noon Sunday I saw the GW towing the boat to Don's Port and then I saw the GW working around the pump station flume at Don's Port, so my guess is someone crashed into the flume.

There was so little of the nose of the boat sticking out of the water that I could not tell what kind of boat it was, except it was gray fiberglass with rails. The nose was crushed. I was surprised it had enough trapped air to keep afloat. Finding a sunk boat like that always gives me anxiety, thinking maybe there are people in the water. IF the boat hit the pump flume, somebody may have to do some "splaining" as to why three of the four warning bouys normally surrounding it are missing.

They either hit the pump station or the retaining wall in front of Don's. Both have been hit in the past, that giant lantern was placed at the end of the retaining wall just becasue of the folks that say that can't see the lit wall in the first place. I bet the GW's love working a full day then get called right back out to an accident. Oh well somebody's got to do it. Now if something could be done about these fine folks that gas up their Waverunner at Don's then floor the gas as they leave the dock.

Wow, I am so sorry to hear about the death and injury. The front of the boat was really crumpled. The background lighting really makes those hazards around Don's Port hard to see at night. I fish at night around there all the time and I still have to concentrate to find the wall and the flume. Thanks for the update Chuck.

Late Sat. night around midnight, we were just around in a cove just around from Dons port, hanging out and heard what sounded like a really loud gunshot...then not too long after a ton of ambulance and firetruck sirens. We didnt hear anything afterwards. We all commented on how bright the full moon was. The next afternoon we could see the GW dragging what looked like a purpleish boat tip (maybe a four winns) that was poking out of the water. We also noticed two boat seats on the shore in two different areas. We didnt connect it all until later, when we were gassing up and heard that a boat hit the water intake at 50 MPH late Sat, with at 2-3 people on board. A 26 yr. old girl died. and someone was careflighted. Would love to get an update on the survivors...we were heartbroken for all involved.
