Hello my brothers south of the Red. Several years at Loke fork my prop began to cavitate and I had to idle in to the dock. I was sure I had spun a hub but the mechanic couldn't find anything wrong. My prop has three holes in it with a plastic plug in each hole and he suggested I take one of the plugs out. magically my problem was solved until this last week. After fishing and heading in, a very strong wind came up. As I quartered into the waves a large swail took my boat up and it began to cavitate again. as it settled back into the water it continued to cavitate. I had to ease the throttle back into nuetral and take off again. same thing happened again. it is not good to be sitting still as waves crash over your boat. I was just wondered why after my boat settled back into the water the prop continued to cavitate. I have seen boats take on much heavier waves and make it back to shore. Any thoughts? Thank you for your help.

Now you may have spun the hub. Have it checked out.

What prop is the three blade? I carry two props for the very reason you described. My three blade Turbo Lightning TXP does not do well in rough big waves when I try to stay on plan at slow speeds but it flies on smooth water. When I know I am going to be fighting big waves and rough water conditions I put on a Merc Trophy Plus four blade. And before someone suggest a Tempest Plus that prop will flat out not work on my boat and has no lift what-so-ever on my boat.

I fished all the next day with no problem, only in rough water. Will definately look for a solution because rough water is not the place for this problem. Thank you.

It is the standard three blade that came with my bass cat pantera III new in 2002. probably need to find out a little more about the prop. It does have three holes with three rubber stoppers. One has been removed.

sounds like a Tempest plus.
if so, it has a plastic insert as a hub. it's either spun or it's NOT....NO in between with it.
have the prop's blades check for being out of pitch or loss of cupping.

oh, and just fyi.
if it's "cavitating" on the holeshot. Put the plug back in!
more cavitation on the holeshot, the smaller hole plugs need to be in it.
if it bogs, then a plug needs to be removed.

soonerjake I bet if you tell or email steve@scp what boat and motor you have, he will be able to tell you what you have if it is the original prop. If not original he can tell you what you need. It still would be a good idea to have second prop and since you got a 3 blade get a four blade for a spare and maybe have it in one inch less pitch of your three blade. If you motor is a merc get a Trophy Plus with a cavitation ring if needed. For the PVS blugs(the black plugs) I bet Steve will give you a good idea of what size you need for your boat. The four blade is much easier for boat control in rough water and is not as prone to cavitation blowout at slow speeds as a three blade.

Thank you all my brothers from other mothers. Thank you Steve. I will be at Frok sometime next month for some of that great summer fishing and I think I will have you look at it for me. I usually go with a guide the first day so maybe i could drop it off for a day or two. Don't know why I didn't think of that before. thank you all again.
